Sometimes. If visibility isn't generally good, I'll do it. Otherwise, no.

speed limits are too bloody low here to warrant it. I like when people would tap them in europe, to let you know they're going 120 -> 0, as opposed to 120 -> 60... so you can get on the brake.

i just downshift to 2nd and dont use any lights at all. people behind me can figure it out :p

seriously, ill tap my brakes a few times to let people be aware, but beyond that i dont. hazards are for when im stopped on the side of the road and want people to know hitting me would be a hazard. or parking in front of large office buildings.

If I need to stop, I too busy braking to be turning on my hazards.

usually i just tap the brakes a couple times. i turn hazards on if it is foggy or if for some other reason i'm going under 45mph and the signs call for hazard lights.

Always do. It's for safety. If people see hazard lights on they'll generally slow down and pay attention. My button is a nice big button in the middle of the dash so I just slap it as I'm slowing down abruptly.

Same if an accident just happened and there are cars or debris in the road.

If I pass deer on the road I will warn oncoming vehicles with flashers. Same with larger objects. I always appreciate when someone does it for me, so I therefore do it for others.
so, Yes.

Oh, i also flash my headlights when I see the cops !

I voted yes, then thought about it. :p Sometimes I'll do that or sometimes I will rapidly tap the brakes.

I do it seeing as i see no reason to tap the brakes and mess with all that. Especially if i'm on the interstate and come to a stop. I want the ones behind me to see there's a problem, not slow from 80..to 70..to 60..to OH SHIT THEY'RE STOPPED!

No, that's what brake lights are for.

There are unexpected halts on the freeway everyday here...in fact, typical commuter traffic is one giant stop and go mess lasting hours in the morning and hours again in the afternoon.

If that's what brake lights are for how come GA 97 is full of accidents where vehicles, especially early morning logging truckers, slam into the rears of cars when they have plenty of distance to see these brake lights.

Every time.

Everyone except me is a horrible driver, so I need to give everyone the most information possible.

Yup, everytime, especially at night when depth perception is more difficult, and usually when the car behind me is a few hundred feet away. When the traffic is right with you, it's a lot easier for them to see the magnitude of the stop and not just think it's people tapping on the breaks.

im thinking its drivers not paying attention to the road that cause those. brake lights are the first clue that traffic is slowing. if you cant tell how quickly that is happening, youre either not paying attention or just havent figured out how to gauge a vehicles rate of speed. either way youre gonna cause an accident if youre not paying attention and acting accordingly.

Plain and simple, it's because they're following too closely. If you rear end someone it is because you either weren't paying attention or you were following too close. If you could see the brake lights you should have left enough room to stop if the guy in front of you does a panic stop. If you cannot see the brake lights of the car in front of you due to poor visibility then you should slow down.
