Do you find that sometimes you hate things just because they are popular?

Believe me... I above everyone else HATE to admit it but sometimes i catch myself hating things just because they are popular. Easiest example i can think of is liking a band before they 'made it big'. and the moment they DO make it big... you sorta stop liking them... even though their music might sound the same as it used to.

Yes I totally agree with you on that.

<edit>the problem with bands when they make it big, is now they know they have a fanbase that will buy any crap they produce. I mean I want my fav. bands to be successful and stuff, but I hate it when somebody talks about how they love that band cause they've heard like two songs on the radio.

I feel same way too. I like to consider my tastes a bit ahead of the times. With the popularity of Elec music and the massive migration to all the parties and clubs from all these trendy people piss me off.

Really popularity shouldn't affect what you do at all... It always sucks to be part of a fad - but it also sucks to quite something you like because of it's fad-appeal. Nobody cares any more - only highschoolers still care about being 'cool'...

Yep. I've been into the scene since '93 and I'd say 1997 was when it all started to get big with some mainstream sucess by artists like Chemical Brothers, etc. Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, Sasha and Digweed have all been popularized by the likes of MTV. And the degenerate lameoid Fatboy Slim which really caught on with the trendy people. I don't like his music at all... there is very little structure in any of music and he just uses lame beats. I still love alot of "electronica" (just hate using that blatant generalization) and eventually many of the trendy people will move on to something else like they always do and more artists will produce progressive music instead of the rampant and stagnant crap that alot of artists are being forced to produce today.

I try to avoid anything that appears to be popular due to the hype machine. I've still never seen Titanic.
