Do you FF or Pale Moon users do this trick?

Do you do the below trick to ensure you get the latest version of a webpage or do you leave stuff at defaults? The reason I ask is because I have always had it on but sometimes I fear that it might slow down my browsing. But again, I don't want to ever view a thread in a forum and not get the latest content or sometimes if I go to Majorgeeks.com and do a CTRL + F5 I notice there are new content that wasn't there when I visited the page I I don't do the below trick:

If you want Firefox to automatically refresh pages when you load them so that you always get the latest page when you access a site (very helpful in Message Boards to ensure you are viewing the latest threads and posts), do this:

1)

 • In the Firefox address bar at the top, type about:config
 • Then type in browser.cache.check_doc_frequency
 • Change the value to 1 to force a cache refresh so that the page is refreshed automatically upon every visit.

Other values you may want to consider (ie. you want to revert back to the normal refresh mode):
3 - only check if it seems outdated
2 - always use cached version
1 - always check for newer version
0 - check for newer version once per session

2) Then, go to Firefox Options > Advanced > Network

Set your cache to 0 as shown in the image below:

This will force Firefox to always get the latest version of the webpage rather than load it from cache
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If for any reason the above didn't do the trick, then you can try this but leave it as a last resort as it can slow down your browsing experience on slow connections but usually the above 2 steps should suffice.

In the about:config page, paste this:

network.http.use-cache

Then double click on it so that the value turns from True to False

AFAIK, I've never gotten an expired page on reload. Disabling the cache will increase bandwidth usage, and loading times.

you are right, just got a reply from Moon Child (the developer of Pale Moon)

Moonchild said:
You are severely slowing your browsing down by completely disabling your caching.

Pale Moon, by default, checks with the server if a document has changed since the last request for it, and if the server indicates so by telling you it has expired, the browser will re-download the page immediately. This will ensure you always get the latest version of the document while maximizing leveraging of cache.

If you have to deal with badly configured servers that do not honor this check properly and you see stale content when you are browsing that gets pulled from your cache, you can, if you want to, force the browser to always verify itself if a document has changed. Either with step 1 in your "trick guide" or more conveniently by grabbing Pale Moon commander, and going to "Advanced options..." -> "Performance" -> tab "Cache" and at the bottom, select "Compare cached pages to pages on the network: Always"

There should never be a reason to disable your cache.

I did the above trick so I still get the latest content but without affecting my browsing speed:
