I feel that handshake is a guy thing,
but how to greet a female stranger instead of handshake then? Wave?

Just say something smoothe, like "You already have 206 bones in your body, why not one more?"

Works everytime.

I always shake mens hands when I meet them. It is just a customary way to greet somebody of either sex, in my opinion. :)

Sephorith: LMAO! I don't know, I think if a guy said that to me, my response would be more along the lines of "Well, I don't know, how many of yours would you like broken in exchange?" :p

I have no problem with a simple handshake for either sex, especially if it's a stranger.

GirlFriday

I always shake a womans hand, but have always been self concious of how to grip the womans hand, firmly as a man to man handshake, or more gently as to convey a concern for a woman's sensitivites. How do women shake hands with one another? firm or soft?

I'm late. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ASCENSION TO A HIGHER AUTHORITY;)

Tripleshot: That depends on the woman. I have shaken hands with very gentle females, and I have almost had my arm ripped off by others. But all in all, its just a regular handshake. Thanks by the way. :)

andylawcc: That's right, be afraid, be very afraid! :Q :p

When I shake a girl's hand, if she's a firm shaker I give her a warm firm shake back. If she's a gentle shaker, then I respect that and give her a kind gentle shake. Try to make good eye contact when shaking somebody's hand. I notice a lot of people look at the shaking hands when they shake someone's hand, which is silly. Combine a strategic shake with a nice little crack of a smile, and you've got yourself the perfect introduction.

I don't know, usually the girl's hand just looks small and like, I don't know, gentle I guess, so I kinda try to do a soft handshake too...but I guess a girl would just prefer a regular one (probably depends on the girl actually)?

So it looks like we've got the greeting down, so what do y'all give the ladies when you're saying goodbye? eh? ;)

on an unrelated note, i hate it when people give me the "dead fish" handshake. you know...the one where they don't apply ANY pressure at all and just leave this limp appendage in your hand. ugh...that really bugs me...

exactly! and i'm more along the lines of "look them in the eye and give 'em a firm squeeze" school of thought here. when someone puts a dead fish in my hand like that my first instinct is to drop it and wipe my hand on my thigh.

oh, and it's even worse when they're sweaty! i was dating this girl who had some medical condition that made her hands really sweaty all the time. and i don't mean damp....they were like, DRIPPING. i'm kinda an affectionate guy so i like holding hands, but when i had to keep wiping my hands to keep them dry from holding hers....er....it put kind of a damp...er on the relationship. :D

Always shake their hand, that way if they have a briefcase or purse in the other hand you can get a couple quick gropes in. :D BTW kind of off topic, but anyone know when they started putting steel frames in leather briefcases?!? I think my jaw is broken............ ;)

In the Playboy adviser from years ago, it did an expose on shaking hands with women. I don't remember all of it, but it said you can show and detect many things about a handshake. Men tend to shake hands up and down in almost perfect rhythm. . Women tend to move a bit side to side and are usually not in rhythm. When a man is interested in a woman that he needs to shake hands with (which is always), then he should not shake straight up and down, nor in rhythm. Instead, he should use more side motion (half circles), and if he is really interested to use a pulsating squeezing motion.

After I read this article I started to shake hands with as many females as I could. I did find that there was a bit of truth to the above.
