Do you feel that good headphones really only sound good at a high volume?

Recently I started cranking up the volume on these cans and they sound a lot better for some reason, I thought they sounded great before, but they really come alive once you kick up the volume. I try to keep it a little under the level of pain and not for prolonged periods of time either. Is this the case with many headphones? Just wondering. Thanks.

Sennheiser cans sound great no matter what! I have a pair thats a few years old. Cost about $200. Forget the model right now. At work. They are open air type and sound incredible!

Be careful with that volume! Headphones are far more damaging than regular speakers!

Everything pretty much sounds better if it's louder.

Even one or two dB increase is enough to make someone prefer sound in an AB test.

No, you're right they do. But only if the amplification can handle it. If the 'phones aren't getting enough power they'll sound worse when the volume is cranked.
