Do you feel more secure now

Do you feel more secure now that the people checking you through security at the airport are federalized.

Keep in mind that these are the same people who checked you through security before 9/11. They now make more money and receive better benefits as federal employees, but they are still the same people.

I might be a skeptic, but I don't believe that the security procedures we have now are going to stop anyone intent on performing a terrorist act from getting on a commercial airliner.

Before you answer, take into account all of the high-tech weapons/explosives that are available to would-be terrorists.

Yes, I feel very secure. Of course that might be because I never fly anywhere.

They could have saved a lot of time, money and BS just by installing new cockpit doors and arming the pilots.

It is still a joke, and if 3000 deaths and an attack on the Pentagon isn't enough to tighten it up to where it should be I don't think anything will.

no, not at all. I feel less secure because of the false sense of secutiry these new measures bring us. It's been shown already that weapons are almost as easy to bring onto planes. I believe I've read 3-4 articles on the subject already (fortunately the articles didn't say exactly how they did it)

I guess the reason I ask this is in light of the guy who wore explosive tennis shoes onto a plane and was caught trying to light the fuse.

What if he had been successful?

What if he had gone to the restroom to light them up where he wouldn't have been observed.

The guy was extraordinarily stupid. He could have gotten away with it.

It makes me feel pretty vulnerable no matter what the government says about improving security.

Actually, the smoke detectors in the restrooms would have gone off...which could have been a problem.

By the time the smoke detectors had gone off and the crew had broken into the restroom..........boom.

What BigFatCowsays only makes me more suspicious about the supposed "added security" we are experiencing.

The INS allows people into the U.S. every day without performing background checks on them, even now.

So, what effective measures are the government taking to give us added protection?

I've flown twice since 9/11 and will be again on the 18th of this month, I don't give it a second thought. There isn't a damn thing I could do anyway, if someone was determined enough to smuggle something on an airplane they would find a way. There is no such beast as 'real' security. If I wanted to walk up to some guy and kill him, there isn't a whole lot he can do to stop me. I would just approach him smiling as if I needed help, ask if he had change for my dollar so I could use the phone, then when he looked down to reach into his pocket, I'd just stick a knife in his throat or something. Zip-bang, you're dead, bet you thought you were safe, huh?

Our level 'safety' is dependent upon the number of people around us at any given time who are determined to harm us, not what security measures we take.
