Do you feel guilty when you're not working at work?

I've been pretty free lately at work because theres a bottleneck in approving content for the web. So I basically browse the web all day at work. I'm guessing it's natural to feel guilty about getting paid for doing nothing? Or maybe I should tell myself that the hard work will be coming soon?

Are downtimes just normal in the workforce? Other people in the department seem busy. They might be faking it like me?

I used to feel bad about it, but I realized that I'm paid partly to be around in case anything goes wrong. I think the management would rather pay me to sit around with nothing to do sometimes than lose thousands in downtime if something did go wrong when I wasn't there. Everything evens out in the end. Yeah, sometimes I'll spend half my day browsing AT bored out of my mind. But I'm also the one that's gonna stay here til 10 at night patching computers or repairing something that *has* to be ready the next day.

Its funny that you mention this because the engineering and the IT department (I'm in this one) just got a new manager and he's basically a big kid. I've been playing Metroid on the Gamecube that he brought in for about 2 hours now. Its weird and yes I do feel guilty but work kicks a$$ all of a sudden.

Lisa, if you don?t like your job you don?t strike. You just go in
every day and do it really half-assed. That?s the American way

My job is to keep the radio stations on air (among others, that is my primary job), so I'm technically always doing my job. Even now. ;)
