Yes, I get that somewhat often.

In the back of my head I think it's the karma of my childhood orthodontist telling me I needed to wear that massive bionater(retainer) that made it almost impossible to talk. The ridicule of the kids in junior high convinced me to never wear it... the doc told me it would cause problems later in life if I didn't! Shit! "We're fucked, Walter!"

Close your mouth and push up just behind your chin with your thumb.

I get it when I open my mouth too wide while yawning. Hurts and is awkward at first but they always go away in a few seconds.

OMFG I hate when that happens. It hurts all the way up to the tip of your tongue sometimes. :(

Well, maybe they're related. A friend of mine switched to a different med because of the jaw clenching and shaking. Its nowhere near as bad as it was the first month, but I do still notice it every once in awhile.

I have gotten similar pain for many years, much less lately I think. For me it's usually precipitated by eating something. It's certain foods and that first bite and the pain can be pretty intense but it subsides very quickly (i.e. 5 seconds or less).

I had a girlfriend who felt strongly it was some form of TMJ (look it up). Sounds like that might be what you get/have.
