Yes.
I used verbal studying during some hard times at high school. Evert week in my History AP class we'd have to look up 30 people/places/events, create a paragraph definition for each, memorize it, and then in class write down some selected ones in a few minutes (the testing part, the memorzing of course was outside class as it took hours). You had to be quick, and I memorize things faster when I study verbally.
Problem is it stuck. If I'm in a place by myself for a long enough time, I start doing it. Good thing is I somehow don't do it when around other people.
