I've found it happening pretty often recently as I've been trying to cut out snacking, espcially late night snacking. I goto sleep STARVING and wake up and not even really be hungry. Why is this? Does this happen to you?

Because you are in a catabolic state, where you break down muscle for fuel. Notice how much smaller you will be in the morning as well ;)

Habit. You're not hungry at night in the sense that you need food. You simply want food because you're used to it (and your brain will not take cutting out food lightly - that's how you evolved).

Eventually, you'll stop being hungry at night. I've found that adult Americans are very bad at suppressing food appetites. It is, however, possible. Good luck.

You get hungry when your blood sugar takes a dive. By morning it has stabilized again. That's the whole point of Atkins, when you consume food that is low in carbs and low in sugar, your blood sugar doesn't yoyo, and you don't feel so hungry soon after a meal.

i rarely wake up hungry, regardless of how i am feeling when i go to sleep. oftentimes (especially lately), i wake up and it feels like there is a brick in my tummy. after an hour or two my appetite starts to show up

I go to sleep depressed and wake up depressed. I am only happy when I am dreaming.

Does this count?

And I find I kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I?m dying are the best I?ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take

No matter how much you are dieting, your body should never be without calories to burn.

This is why it is best to split your meals up into six small meals a day. And one should NEVER eat fewer than 1600 calories a day unless their weight does not change signifigantly at that intake level.

BTW, for those who want to keep/gain muscle mass, it is best to eat some protien an hour or so before bed and promptly upon waking.

Thread Hijack in progress.

That song rocks and the remake from Donnie Darko is even better.

Also keep in mind that you might not be hungry, in the sense that you need to eat food -- you might just be dehydrated, and rather than eat snacks, water might just help :)
