Do you ever find yourself having trouble walking down stairs?

I see some people run down stairs like it's nothing, sometimes taking 3 or 4 at a time. If I did that I would be face first on the sidewalk. How does one achieve such dexterity?

I hate stairs, I have to use the handrail or I feel like I am going to fall down. However my fiance goes down them with no problem.

I'm honestly like that too. It really sucks.

QFT. I hate having to keep looking at each step down.

What makes it worse, for me atleast, is he will walk behind me and act like he is going to push me down. I hate it.

Yeh, but that's because I've got some sort of MCL damage that I aggrivate every now and then. I put too much weight on it and I nearly collapse.

Going up is worse.

:(

Damn I thought I was the only one in the world with trouble walking down stairs. I need some kind of "stair walking therapy" I think.

I remember some track practices back in high school we would just run up and down stairs for over an hour. You learn to skip steps pretty quickly when faced with that.

I can do 2 or 3 at a time...

I can be up a flight of stairs in about 5 seconds...

Of course, I'm 6' 3" and have a fairly wide stride...

Oh up is no problem. I usually take 2 at a time going up-- kinda running and pushing off with the leg on the lower step each time.

I can do 2-3 at a time going down. It all has to do with momentum. You can't stop on each step to recalculate your balance, you just need to do a smooth motion all the way down.

It depends on how well I know the staircase and what it's made out of. At my parents' house our stairs are carpeted and I can go down them in a second or two. I absolutely fly. Each foot hits only maybe once or twice. If I ever miss a step I am going to go face-first through the wall at the bottom.

I use the rails and go down like 5 at a time. You'd probably get more dexterity if you didn't sit in front of the computer all day.

I'm bad about going up stairs. As long as I'm not paying attention, I'm fine. But if I look down, even for a split second it's like throwing a manual override. I suddenly become very aware of the step and how I'm moving, and I find myself trying to un-necessarily correct for the next step, then I trip and stumble.

Yeah, the only time its any problem is if you think about it. Going down stairs should be an unconscious thing, as soon as you start thinking about it then it suddenly seems difficult. The fact you THINK you have problems going down stairs is probably the biggest reason WHY you have this problem. I feal that way sometimes, but only on stairs that are very steep or of unusualy size. And only the first couple uses, your brain should rapidly learn the nescecarry stride and do it automatically. However, like breathing, as soon as you think about it you start having to keep thinking about it.

Been there, done that. Bit hard to keep balance, but then I have trouble walking in heels anyway.

I can take a flight of 15 stairs down in about two steps but that's because I jump.
