Do you ever feel like...

Its not worth it? I'm not talking life and getting all emo, I mean whatever your working towards.

I wonder this as I sit here studying my a$$ off, not having a life and working almost every minute that I am not at school. Plus I am constantly being told that a degree in psychology is going to do me nothing, I know this but when I tell people that I am going to work higher they tell me not to waste my time.

So sometimes I just feel like its not worth it, having to work and go to school all the time, studying, barely making enough to get by and not having any fun. I see all of my friends going out and having fun...makes me wonder how they do it.

Oh well call in the waaaaammmmbulance

I think that a degree in any kind of social science is good - you'll likely have a more reqarding job than someone who is a engineer. You can make a difference by working with people, and their lives. My Step-mother has a degree in Psychology, and she's a drug counselor - she loves her job.

Keep your head up 🙂

Nothinng is jsut "worth it. "

Keep telling tellign yourself that.

Hopefully you will oneday come to the conclusion that you have found somethign that makes you happy, and that is reason enough to make that your life🙂

thanks,

it just seems as though a lot of people say that a degree in the field that I am HIGHLY interested in is worth nothing, they always knock me for choosing this as a career. People always have the same response, "you know the demand is really low, right?"
I have just been told this a lot, plus it seems my friends go out every thursday and all weekend, they think college is the greatest and I look at it as something that I can't fathom paying for.

those people are elitist pricks that have nothing better to do than bullsh!t about how they are better than you and more worthy of societies praise and wealth....

Do what makes you happy. that is all that you can ask of yourself and that is the richest experiecne that life cna give you🙂

The amount of happy poor people I know FAR outweighs the joyous rich.

Well research is good and all, I have my respect for those 'folks, but I am mostly interested in counseling, either adults or children.

haven't reallu decided yet, in order to do either I need the certifications so I have about 7 years to decide. 🙂 long road.

I have just been told this a lot,

Are they talking about positions for people with a science degree with a major in psychology, or positions for qualified psychologists? If you go on to do post-grad study and eventually qualify as a psychologist, I can't imagine how you wouldn't find work.

How do they fund their life style? Are their parents helping out with college tuition?

I've a BA in Philosophy. Deal with it.

On a more serious note:

1. What majors are your "genius friends"?
2. And why are you even bothering to even listen to them? Is your lack of self-esteem the reason you've joined Psychology?

The good thing is, there is no shortage of patients for your future profession (possibly including me). But right now, is this a field you like? Why did you take up Psych?

I am strictly a psych major and I tell them that, and tell them that I plan on being a Dr. of psychology.

about my friends, yes their parents are helping them out, one of my "friends" thats kinda what I could call him, his dad is a big donor to the University we go too, he also lives in a fraternity dealing with his major, the other "friend" his dad helps him a lot, he always has new things, and is always going out, both have not had to work the whole school year. I have a had a job since first term, I pay all my own bills. I think they might pay some of their own way.

No I haven't joined psych as a reason for my lack of self esteam, I do question my ability sometimes. Especailly when I get a bad grade on a test, or don't quite understand something and everyone else seems too.

my friends majors are, Business Adminastration, and Agriculture Business.

and looking at JL's comment you see what I mean when it comes to the opinion of others about psychology.

I hope so, and I hope its while I arm the system on my porsche, and walk throught the double doors to my three story house...unlikely however but a guy can dream right?

Its a common comment that everyone is psych major, or so it seems, if one thing this major has taught me is research, JL have you actually asked enough people to say that more people are psych majors than any other? Or are you purely riding on what others say and your just reciting a myth you have heard being nothing more than a pawn to spread this lie?

I have finished my degree in science, with a major in psychology like you. I'm also thinking (oddly enough) if doing post graduate study in psych. Possibly starting next year. If you ever have a question on statistics or research methods, feel free to PM me, it's an area I'm pretty good at. Or questions in any other topics. What year level are you in, anyway?

It's all up to you and how you apply your talents. Most careermen don't even use their college degrees. Have fun, learn how to interact with people, and in the long run if you're not a real douche, things will work out the way you plan them.
