I own so much stuff I don't even feel the least bit excited when I buy even more cool and expensive stuff. I don't even care anymore if people are impressed by it or not. I'm 26 and almost feel like I'm on a psychological morphine overdose 24/7. I practically feel nothing and am expressionless except maybe greed and when I'm hungry.

Thats interesting... I wonder how many people in our society feel like you to some extent or another....

I'm not kidding either. While I am perfectly healthy physically and 'sane' to a certain extent, I am so emotionless it's not even funny. I couldn't even cry when my mother told me she has colon cancer. It hit me a few months later. I don't even feel happy when people give me gifts unless it's something very useful; then I feel a bit thankful. I don't feel the urge to go out and enjoy beautiful scenery. I am simply content with myself as long as I am working and making money, lots of money. I smile when someone or something gets pwned. When people ask me what I want for a gift, I just can't think of anything I want anyone to give me since I prefer to work and buy it myself. I still have good moral judgement to a technical degree. That's about it.

sorry, wasnt clear. Im talking about the foreign graduate students and postdocs that work with me. they generally show up off the plane with two suitcases and live off that for a few years.

ever since i moved out of the dorms, Ive been collecting junk at an exponential rate.

I think the amount of stuff I have is just about right, and it stays that way because of limited space in my apartment. (Every time I bring something new in, I need to get rid of something else, or else I'm tripping over stuff.) It only causes anxiety when I think about moving--I'm either going to hire movers, or make sure I've got an extra month's rent in to overlap the closing date on whatever I buy.
