Depression is a symptom of extreme selfishness.

Funny that you write that. The people i know that have often depressions are indeed a bit self centered. They often see themselves as the center of the universe and the best thing out there.

But i have to disagree with you a little bit. Not every depressed person is selfish.
I can imagine that if a given person suffers from a depression it is about something that matters greatly to that person but has no control over . For example a loss of someone close or the feeling that one is not in control of their own life.

And this, folks, is why mental illness still gets little attention. Morons like this that think something causing chemical imbalances is the act of "selfishness". I'm sure every person who commits suicide is more selfish than the average person... said no doctor ever.

Well, i think what he means is that some of those people also act selfish. Everything revolves around them. But is that part of their personality or is it them trying to find a listening ear for their depression problem ?

I think that some people who are depressed suffer from Narcissism.

Sure, some of them may be acting selfishly, but it isn't because they are selfish people. It is far more likely their actions are the result of their depression.

She's depressed because she needs to hang around better people. Take that for what it is.

depression is just an excuse to do whatever you want. or to not do anything at all.

Depression is losing the will to live. It can be expressed in many ways but deep down inside that's what it is.

Wow, lots of people in this thread who don't have much understanding of clinical depression.

I second that.
I consider myself lucky to not have a more severe form. The best article I ever read for depression was:

(The rant article the inspired this page is also a great read)

Sometimes all you have energy for is to look for any strings to hold on to to get you through the day.

I like #12. I have had depression to the point of suicide and I have been to the mental health hospital twice. The second time was by meat wagon. Well, my dumb ass cousin thinks I'm lazy. I'm posting #12 to Facebook.
