Do you enjoy reading? Do you enjoy noir and pulp fiction?

I love reading and really enjoy the gritty stories from the forties and fifties. I found this book called Night Walker by Donald Hamilton. It was written mid-fifties. It was a great read. It was one in a series called Hard Case Crime. They have a book club where you get two books for $8.99 a month shipped. I have gotten four books so far and I'm in love. They have both reprints of classic noir and new authors who write in classic noir style. It is great stuff. Each book has been awesome.

If you are interested, you can check them out at:

i love reading, particularly sci-fi and fantasy.

some reading threads get good response and others don't. most people think reading os boring or not cool. they're just idiots.

dain, does this book club do sci-fi or fantasy stuff also?

I picked up the Colarodo Kid to read a few months back. I kept it in the truck to read on the afternoons when I picked up my son from school and was waiting. It must have put me to sleep at least 5 times.

I am interested in that style of writing, but that book blows.

Not to my knowledge. I don't read much of those genres.

i really like the older sci-fi and fantasy stuff. been reading a lot of Robert E. Howard who wrote his stuff in the mid 20s to the mid 30s. he wrote a lot of historical fiction and action stoires that are really good if youre into any of that stuff.

I've got too many books sitting in my room right now that I still have to read.

Whenever I go book shopping, I tell myself I'm only going to buy 1 or 2, and the next thing I know I've got 8 new books to read.

If I wind up getting into this now, it could be disastrous ;)

At least this is a cheap way to expand your collection. :D

I'm currently going through a 'Bad Sci-Fi' phase

Reading S.M. Stirling at the moment. Crazy suff, but meh, it's pulp fun.

Besides, it's a rather sharp break from "The Brothers Karamazov" which I was in the middle of but needed to take a breather from...

I go to a local thrift store near my apartment and buy used paperbacks for 50 cents apiece. The last 6 i read were Sidney Poitier bio Rock Hudson bio, Mommie Dearest ,Where The Red Fern Grows, In The Belly Of The Beast(prison book), and On The Trail Of The Assasins(about JFK murder). I go on reading binges, quit for awhile and then binge again.

I read all of the Mickey Spillane Mike Hammer books long ago (much better than the stupid TV show), and the first 6 or 8 Spenser books (also better), but am not much into noir or crime fiction.

SF & fantasy for me, with a dash of everything else for variety.

I just read through his Dies the Fire series and wasn't impressed. Too many coincidences The second book was a big let down but I won't say why and spoil anything.

Rereading Alice Borchardt's Silver Wolf series atm.
