I'm using XP Pro. I don't know if Autorun is enabled by default or disabled on install. Anyway, do you use it and why?

I saw an article in the paper recently about digital frames being subject to infecting viruses, or at least spyware, etc. They suggested turning off Autorun if you are going to use one. I don't have a digital frame or intend to buy one but it got me thinking that maybe having Autorun enabled is asking for trouble. You can always find setup.exe and run it, which seems to run installations pretty much the same way they'd run if Autorun is enabled.

I disable Autorun 100%. In addition to the security risk, I don't like the nuisance of having something auto launch. Sometimes I put a disc, or USB drive in to work on something in a little bit, and don't want to be bothered with it right away.

Disable... It's a security risk. Plus if I want the damn bloatware, I'll start it myself.

Disable autorun. IIRC, autorun allowed for that Sony rootkit on CDs to be installed. Also, other security risks and it is annoying.

on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer set (or create) the DWORD "NoDriveTypeAutoRun" with value 000000ff.

i have a .REG file to set this up for me. 2 clicks get it done. this setting disables autorun for *all* device types.
