just thought of this when reading the other driving thread.

i listen to the news when driving sometimes and when it rains, i hear about all these cars spinning out.

i wonder, why are people still driving at 75-80 and TURNING CORNERS at that speed when its raining while on the freeway?

Stick with the flow of traffic.

But, if it's dumping, I'll slow down, esp. on parts of the interstate with the concrete dividers to avoid hydroplaning on a pool of standing water.

If it's raining to the point that I can't see the damn road, then i'll slow down.

Otherwise, no.

speeds always depend on the "conditions of the road" if there's rain I'll slow down, if there traffic I'll slow down, if there's no cop you better believe I'm speeding ;)

Unless it's raining so heavily I can't see readily, I go the flow of traffic, but with twice the following distance.

I drive however feels comfortable to me and my control of the vehicle. I feel the vehicle/road. I anticipate what's ahead and act accordingly. I don't brake needlessly but I don't speed into a corner stupidly with huge puddles or heavy rain or whatever either.

I go the speed limit when there is snow on the ground or if it is raining pretty hard. On a dry day I follow traffic

I usually drive faster. At least around corners. Powersliding freaks everyone out.

slow down. generally to the speed limit.

if raining at a good clip but visibility is still good or there is standing water anywhere - less than speed limit

if raining at a downpour with poor visibility and standing water on the road - 30-45 MPH on the interstate.

Used to speed, until I ended up as one of the people you read about. Going about 80 in a 70, hit a puddle, flew off the side of the road taking out a bunch of small trees, and stopping within a foot of a big tree. That is a foot from the driver side door.

Ended up totalling my car.

Sucks. I'm completely paranoid while driving in the rain now.

Hit one of those bad rainstorms in South Dakota on 90 and you will have to stop. Then pray like heck no one rear ends you.

Depending on the conditions, usually slower. After seeing a Saturn spinning across an interstate, and almost creamed by a tractor trailer back in May, I try to go a little slower, though.

Yeah, I usually end up driving slower then usual. Not by choice but simply because the people in front of me are.
