Do you differentiate between the colour(s) violet and purple?

I have always used those terms interchangeably but I have come across quite a few people recently who see them as different.

Well in French we do have the words violet & pourpre.

Indigo isn't even a color. It does not have a wavelength to sufficiently distinguish it from blue and violet (Indigo was only devised as an "assumed" gradation, the logic being that it just had to be there).
