Do you differentiate between the colour(s) violet and purple?

I thought violet was just the French word for purple. You mean they're actually two different colors? Learn something new every day!

For me, "violet" is just a shade of purple...like lavender or mauve...

I always thought violet had a slightly more blueish tone to it. Like half-way between Purple and Indigo.

Indigo isn't even a color. It does not have a wavelength to sufficiently distinguish it from blue and violet (Indigo was only devised as an "assumed" gradation, the logic being that it just had to be there).

It is now, officially: ROY G BV

Before reading wikipedia:

No, they're the same colour.

After reading wikipedia:

Purple isn't a spectral colour.

This really makes me mad. First Pluto isn't planet and now indigo isn't in the rainbow. What next? Is Dopey not really a drawf but just a really shorty guy?

To the typical woman, I'm pretty sure 'violet' and 'purple' are at least four thousand shades apart.

To me violet is where the D is
Purple is where the C is

(even though technically I guess they both fall under purple)
