Do you cut your hair when starting a new job?

At the time of the interview (~1 month ago) I had a curly, poofy hair style. Nobody mentioned it at all.

I start on Monday, and my hair has since gotten more poofy. However, this is only if I comb it. After I shower, if I just let it air dry, it's a lot more flat.

Should I just roll with it until someone says something, or cut it now and "show initiative", lol,?

Depends, as long as you maintain it it shouldn't be a problem. I started my last job with pretty long hair, then again it was helpdesk and I was growing it out for Locks for Love so if anyone said anything about it they could kiss my ass.

I keep the small amount of hair I have left pretty short, so I cut it 2-3 times a month anyway. I doubt anyone would notice the difference between the interview and the first day of work.

If your hair looks scraggly, cut it. You don't want to be known as goofy hair guy on your first day.

I'm in the close to the same situation. Except I have to start job hunting soon, and I can't decide If I should cut my hair for interviews.

I don't want to, I've been growing it for more than a year, and don't want to lose all my progress.

Get a trim to tidy it up and make sure that you keep it maintained (Comb/Brush, straighten, style, etc). I've never had any complaints about my hair. Stop by the bathroom when you get to the interview room and make sure that it didn't get messed up in the car ride.

My current job I interviewed with a pretty raging mole-man beard going.. kind of expected in the UNIX world though :p

I usually keep it neat though.

The job is in marketing/sales. I posted about it a while ago but basically I'll be on the phone most of the time, calling prospects to gauge their interest in the software.

my hair is 1/16" long. a couple weeks makes a very noticeable difference.

if they hired you with the mop head, they apparently dont care about it that much. id say keep it neat and roll with it. personally, when i interviewed for corp type jobs i cut my hair short (back when i wore it longer) and let the workplace environment decide for me whether i would grow it out again or not.

First impressions will affect how people will think of you forever. You are judged immediately on how you look. Make sure you look good and well groomed.

For the interview, clean cut. Post landing the job...everything from shiny bald to almost down to my ass. (I've worked here since '92)

Current doo: #4 on top, #2 back and sides. Trim it up, once a week.

I leave it long cause I look younger, kiddier and, what I think, is better. Unfortunately, time or my genes have caught up, so I'm going to have to for future interviews.

I cut my pubic hair---but only if my new job involves being on a porn set.
