Do you copy your audio CDs for backup/CD text?

..assuming you actually bought some, that is.

I'm copying a pile of them now...they don't come with CD text, and I kinda like having the track title displayed on my car's HU..so I'm sitting here copying my CD changer's contents, but adding CD text...fortunately, most of my CDs are in the huge online database, so I don't have to type it all in.

I'd also not rather take the risk of scratching an original CD...but the main reason I'm doing this is for the text. Yes, I'm bored.

Once I get a CD, I burn it onto a taiyo-yuden, then I leave the CD in its case. I only use it for the initial burning/ripping, ideally.

I usually copy them to my hdd first in 192 MP3 format, then make an exact copy from the original cd for my car, that way they never have to see the real world except that first time copying them. Keeps them nice and scratch free.

a maker of CD-R. It lasts longer than normal CD-Rs. Reknowned all over Anandtech as quality CD-R. My Fujifilms are from there.

CD Text rocks.

After i buy the CD, i just rip it and put it back in the case and let it sit there. If i need to make someone a copy, ill do it with the mp3s. 99% of the population won't notice anyhow.

Rip it to HD with VBR. Since my car plays MP3s and the HTPC will soon be hooked into the home theater system, I have no need for the original CD.

All my CD are backed up to TY CD-Rs the minute I get them and then the originals are archived in a closet to never be played/ripped again unless my backup becomes damaged/unplayable. If the RIAA doesn't like it they can lick my ba!!s or institute a CD replacement plan as I am not paying for the same music twice.

I wish I'd backed up all my CDs before -- I've been ripping them to FLAC over the last couple months and have about 10 out of 750 (what I've ripped so far) that have at least one bad track the EAC can't read properly regardless of how long it retries.

When I read about RIAA / MPAA scum like Jack Valenti saying that we don't need to be able to back up our CDs / DVDs, I am filled with the urge to take a few damaged CDs and insert them where they'll cause great pain.
