My hometown has 250 people, and is about 500km from perth, and maybe at least 200km for the nearest town of more than say 500 people, i go back to work on a farm near there every uni break...so yes, yes i do ;)

Yes compared to what you normally would think of as California, no to true country folk.

I don't have a home town, the town I went to high school in was 20 mi away, and only had 1500 people in the whole town. I grew up on a farm, my dad was a farmer, so I would consider myself a country boy, I guess. The closest real city to where I live that anyone would know about is Denver, and it's only 6 hours away

No, I grew up one mile from the beach in a California college town. The population of the area is somewhere around 100,000. It's not a big city, but it's hardly the country, either.
