Do you consider firefighters heroes?

A couple days a week I work with a firefighter...he comes in when he is bored out of his mind and gives us a hand with some duct work. A really nice guy..but he only works 7 days a month and off the rest of the time with pay.

he will drive up to his Muskoka cottage and spend a few days..drive back to missisauga for 1 or 2 day 2 shift and drive back and spend a week at the cottage. Seems like he has the life.

funny thing is..his son wants to get into the gas fitter business. How in the fuck would you even consider your son doing that trade when your old man has it on easy street.

yes I realize those shifts are 24 hours..lots of poker/cooking shit for the other guys..lots of boring ass shit. Thats why he comes in to help with some full system jobs we do.

I want to be the hero that cops are when they are standing there at some road construction making huge pay.

What's your point? They are still on the clock. The majority of posts made on this forum during the day are from people at work supposedly "doing work".

Firefighters also ride the ambulances, at least in DC. My brother has to ride the Ambulance some nights and he doesn't look forward to it because it's pretty rough. As far as I know they only do it at night, never during the days.

This...so much this. The same applies to our military troops.

Some actually do heroic stuff...most don't. Simply serving in the armed forces, or working as a cop or firefighter does not make one a hero.
