Do you collect abandonware?

I love the good old classic adventure games and have been collecting them off and on for a while now. Just finished playing simon's sorcerer via scummvm. Got about 2000 old games from a torrent a while back but what I really like collecting are old adventure game CDs.

If I had the money, time and patience, I would, money, yes, because there's no way I would "collect" any games from torrents... I would actually buy them, and even if they'd be $1 dollar each, if I want to collect it means I'll have hundreds of them if not thousands, and I don't have that kind of money for that specific purpose, not to mention actual time to play even a third of them (of course, being a collector doesn't mean having to play them, the problem is I'm a gamer, I wouldn't just be a collector, so I'd want to play most if not all of them at least once).

With seeming trend of re-releasing old games like with Monkey Island 1 with updated files or even just doing a DosBox kludge like with X-Com, I find it a little harder to justify abandonware now until the copyright expires, of which I have absolutely no idea as to their duration.

True and I have paid money for a number of games. And am thinking of starting to collect more through ebay. However it's also true that a lot of these companies don't exist anymore.

I try not to collect newer stuff. Most of these games are from the 80s and 90s. and I do play a lot of it.

Last time I checked the duration of a copyright was the life of the author plus 90 years. Let's just say that the copyrights will still be in effect after you are dead.
