Do you check your change?

I bought something today and didn't check my change. Turns out I got back more money than I should have,

Anyways, do you ever check your change after you purchase something?

I usually in too much of a hurry to count it if it is less than a $10 or something.
I will always look at it, like I am checking it.

Almost always, though sometimes I just throw the coin change into the ashtray. Every now & then someone will manage to slip a Canadian quarter into my change :frown:

Voted sometimes.

Usually if its a buck and change, I don't bother. If its any more than that, I do. Though sometimes if I'm in a hurry, i shove it in my pocket and go.

Heck, I even count the money the bank teller/atm gives me 😉.

I?m a profiler. It depends on how intelligent the person across the counter comes across. If it raises question then I will check the change.

Meh, you can spend Canadian quarters in Michigan just like American so I don't have a problem when I get Canadian change.

I count all money that gets handed to me. I even check money that I get from the tellers that I work with and are my friends. I don't know if it offends them or not, it's just instinct for me.

I'm a cheap MOFO. So I almost always count it. I catch at least 2 people a year trying to shortchange me.

Just count it in your head as they're picking the bills & coins out of the register. Then double-check if that is what you are holding in your hand when you get your change. 🙂

I think the most common error is the cashier giving change on the wrong sized bill. (Change for breaking a $10.00 bill rather than a $20.00 bill.

Once I got into an argument in a drive thru with this fvcktard cashier who INSISTED that I only gave him a $10.00 bill, when I KNEW I gave him a $20.00 (I just came from the ATM). Luckily it was a friday night, so there were like at least 6 cars behind me. I told him that I would park in his window until he gave me the correct change - When he threated to call the police, I invited him to because I would insist that he stop and do a cash-count for the register. LOL I got my change. 😀

That's true, though some merchants do not accept them and they are worth less than US quarters. Will not work in vending machines though, so I do refuse them if I notice them in my change.

THis is all I do... I know the layout of a cash drawer so I dont even need to see the bills just where they are pulling them from... same with the coins... I usually catch them giving me the wrong change and give it back right as they put it in my hand.

I also check money that I get from ATMs. It gets counted right in front of the video camera so if it needs to be reviewed I can get my money back. Common sense about flashing money applies here.

Good question.

I never do.

But, the guilt keeps me up at night.

BTW-where is RossMAN? Doesn't a pole like this cause him to wake from a dead sleep?

He's probably out counting change.

everyonce in a while I'll use a 20 for something that's less than 5 dollars, and I'll get a 5 bill back instead of a 5 and a 10. you gotta watch those products of public education.

almost never.

definitely not at ATMs (has *anyone* ever been shorted when withdrawing money from the ATM?).

the only time I'll check is if I'm paying with a large bill ($50-$100) or if the clerk gives me reason to doubt his/her counting abilities. it's been my experience that most clerks will count it out as they're giving it to you, so I just make sure they're counting off the right numbers.

i usually don't check the cash and coins. in fact, never check the coins, they go straightly to my pocket. i use cc whenever i can, no changes.
