do you change oil Filter every OTHER oil change?

i've got two opposing view point,

one mechanic friend told me its okay to change it every other time.

the other one said time has changed since oil filters were expensive, back then ppl couldn't afford one so they change it less often. But nowaday oil filters are much cheaper so you can actually change it every time you do oil change.

(based on regular/dino motor oil, and engine is naturally aspirated and not "sporty/performance")

I change it everytime. Isn't the purpose of the oil filter to get rid of the contaminated crap in the oil to avoid gunking up your engine? Why would you leave a dirty filter in when you put new oil in?

Which cars in particular? That's the first I've heard of that. Especially considering they're stretching the limits of how long you can go between oil changes (10K normal, 5K extreme), that seems like an awful long time not to change your filter.

i believe the new crvs and civics reccomend and oil filter change at 15,000 miles, and a oil change every 7,500 miles.

Anybody who does is an idiot.

I don't care what anybody recommends... lol

Exactly, although with a 3,000 mile oil change interval it shouldn't matter..

Eh, if you're gonna go through the trouble of changing the filter, change the oil too! 😀

Hurts the pocketbook when you have to change 12-20 qts. Lot of small diesel guys go 50k between changes, but change the filters at the normal interval.

how can I change the filter alone without spilling all the oil out???

I mean, won't the oil be pouring out of the oil filter 'hole' when I take it out?

u will lose about a quart when u change your oil, change the oil when the car is cold. (there will be about half quart absorbed into the filter at any time, and half a quart in the filter)

this is actually a good thing, replacing a quart - you are replenshing the additives and base components in the oil.
