Do you carry a gun, why and what is it?

WELL,

This should get the liberals, Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives and Independents really going. Sorry if I missed anyone.

I like my 38 S&W Chief Special with Hydra-Shock ammo for ease of carry but prefer my 13 shot Baretta automatic.

Yours?

Taurus 9mm All stainless with Packmire full wrap grips, 3 18 round clips, Corbo 147 grain +p Hollow points.

I carry it because I used to put people in jail, now I worry for my and my families safety.

But a gun is a LAST resort to any situation, and do not point it at anything you have no intention of absolutely destroying.

You got it UFWALD, Ive carried since the late 60s and never even showed it to anyone. ALWAYS the last resort.

I Have a Taurus hammerless also but just need that click-click sound so am not too happy with it. Yours sounds like a winner.

thebestMAX,

It's "Beretta", it's "semi"-automatic, and which one is 13 shot?

Ulfwald,

Are you talking about Corbon? If so, they don't make a 147 grain for the 9MM.

Only when I'm hunting. Because taking down a deer with an M80 tied to the top of a piccolo pete tends to ruin the meat. Remington M700 BDL, 30.06

I have only shot one person, and he deserved, He grabbed my girlfriend, put a knife to her throat, and then explained in detail what he wanted to do to her. So I shot him in the kneecap.

russ, They may not be 147 grain, I may be mistaken, It has been a long time since I have had to actually pull it out. 5 years actually.

Hey Russ and everyone else. Do any of you have experience with the Glock 30, or any Glock? It's a subcompact .45ACP. Also, what is a good place online to view concealed carry laws? Thanks guys!

RUSS -

You are right as usual. Put my money into my processor, RAM and hard drive but got a cheap A** keyboard that doesnt know how to spell. I always use automatic for a pistol, what can I say?

Beretta is a Model 84BB (found under series 81), 9mm short, semi automatic, exposed hammer, double action with a length of 172 mm and a weight of 660 gr. with an empty magazine. Magazine is a 13 shot staggered model. Still like to carry it with a round jacked into the chamber for a full 14 rounds.

Want more info, just ask.

Of course, there is NO sound dreaded more by an intruder than that of the racking of a 12 gauge mossberg pump shotgun. Also, no sound more comforting to the person who is wielding it as the perp hotfoots it right out the door. :D

Jumpem,

No plastic for me. For CC laws by state, check this site.

thebestMAX,

AKA the .380. I never liked that piece myself. It's as bulky as my 92FS with a lower capacity and a lot less stopping power. It is a Beretta, though.:)

No likum plastic either.

Always looking for a good carry piece but always go back to the Chief. Just seems to fit my size and if you need more than 5 shots, you probably are in real trouble anyway.

Had the Beretta a long time for the sheer # of shots but agree with you on the stopping power. Had a COLT .45 before it but to carry it took a small mule.

Russ, if you don't like synthetics what do you shoot? I am looking for a semi-auto pistol, not a revolver. Thanks again!

Guns freak me out... If you've ever seen what they do to a person you'll shudder. Movies are full of it when depicting the damage done by a gunshot. Just plain nasty...

Jumpem,

Beretta 92FS.:) But, the most important thing, aside from reliability, is to select a weapon that feels comfortable in your hand. The Beretta is a large frame piece and not necessarily for everyone.

Russ:

You don't carry a 92FS, do you? I have fired those many times (in military dress as an M9), and it seems WAY big and heavy for a carry weapon. I can appreciate its robustness as a combat weapon but it seems awfully massive for a 9mm.

Russ,

One last thing, my friend. Where are some decent sites with handgun reviews or forums? Has anyone from New York got a pistol permit recently? I've heard that it may take 8-12 months to get it after sending in the papers?!

Str8upKiller...

Ditto. It's not even the criminal aspect I worry about. So many people, children included, are killed and maimed by these things. One thing my father told me is that "The one thing horses and guns have in common is that they both can kill you if you dont respect them". That's why I don't talk about them like they are some toy you show off to a friend, like some hot car. These things are meant to kill things. That's all they are meant for. The way some of these people talk about their guns... it really really scares me.

Oh, and I do have a gun. A .38 caliber revolver that was a gift from my father. The gun is in one dresser drawer, and the bullets are in another.

Anyone who keeps loaded guns around the house, especially if they have children, should have the guns taken away from them (and maybe even the children). Period.

Tee_Edwards,

Yes, it's my primary carry piece when I carry. But, I'm a pretty big guy; like I said, it's not for everyone. During the summer, though, I'll sometimes switch to an SMC .380 (Walther clone) because I'm not wearing enough clothes to hide Pete.

DABONEHEAD,

I respect my gun, I know what it can do, because I have seen just what a bullet can do up close and personal.

Killer, why does an inanimate object freak you out, you should be freaked out by the person who is misusing and abusing it, not those of us who will only use it as a last resort of personal protection for ourselves, and our families.

ulfwald,

I'm not really referring to anyone in particular when I reply. This is just my opinion, muchly based on experience with people. People who understand that guns are for last resort aren't the problems... people who think of guns as party-favorites are.

Hey, I call myself 'anti-gun' because I've seen people who have 'jekyl & hyde' reactions around weapons. Put a gun in a persons hand and you also put power -- the ultimate power of life or death. And I believe that there are just not that many people in the world who should have that kind of power.

But, like I said, I have one (courtesy of my father). I would never, regardless of the situation, want to be put into the position where I'd have to contemplate using it.

The best weapon we all have is our heads. Use your head to be careful, and not take stupid risks, and I think most people will live their lives without ever having to contemplate using a gun in anger or for defense.

But that's just my opinion...

Ulfwald,

You are allowing the gun-grabbers to take the thread off topic.
