God of War 2 is going to be a PS2 release next February.

Wow, lots of PS3 haters. I didnt think there were that many. As for me, I think i will stick with my 360 and possibly a Wii.

I actually think we are a good demographic of the population that buys video games. We are all tech-saavy, know all about the PS3, yet we all decide not to buy one.

I think sony might fail horribly with this one. (Ok, maybe not horribly, but it might be like the dreamcast all over again)

People always seem to forget that DVD was already a hot item well before the PS2 was released. I don't know why Sony's alternate version of reality is always accepted as truth.

that's not true. i don't accept sony's version of reality, but i don't deny reality. the PS2 significantly helped DVD become mainstream. i don't know if the PS3 will help as much.

I don't think Sony significanlty helped DVD become mainstream as much as it sped up the process. DVD was pretty much already established and DVDs only competitor, DIVX, had died off. The only thing missing was an affordable DVD player for the masses which the PS2 turned into for the Japanese and the USA (not to the extent in Japan though).

This generation is different because Sony is releasing the PS3 when the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD format war is still really just beginning. It also isn't affordable for the masses at release and won't be for at least another year or longer.

The way I look at it is this.....

I was like 16 or 17 when the PS2 came out, and I could afford it.

I'm 22 now, and I literally make triple what I did when I was 16. I still can't justify spending that much on a PS3.

I saw a Blu-Ray player demoed at a store here in town, and it literally looked worse than a regular DVD. I have no idea what was causing this... but it had this fuzzy/noisy look across the screen. It was an HDMI connection to an HDTV LCD, so I'm assuming that wasn't the problem.

The GAMES will be what sell the PS3, not the movies.

EDIT: Blu-Ray used MPEG2? WTF? No wonder it was "noisy" looking. I thought it was H.264 (or whatever it is).

EDIT: WOW! Right now, 13 of 15 respondants don't even plan on getting a PS3. Didn't see that coming.

EDIT 2: Man... I definitely didn't think that with almost 150 votes in we'd have over 80% of people on this board saying they wouldn't buy one.

PS3 probly wont have the number of games the PS2 did from what i hear its a pain in the ass to program anything for that cell processor

The majority of the population does not own an HDTV so I doubt they care at all about Blue Ray or HD DVD. This isn't going from VHS to DVD where the same tv is used, most people are not ready to shell out $1k plus for a TV when the one they have works perfectly fine.

I don't care about consoles.

If i did, then having Blu-Ray would be a great thing.

maybe they should build a subwoofer and speakers into the thing like those ipod speakers and charge 1000 for it, hell of a deal, super value.

I was excited about it until I started reading how spineless blu-ray was regarding anti-piracy pressures. Now I don't give a rat's tail about blu-ray.

Blu-Ray can use VC-1 but the Blu-Ray consortium chooses not to for some reason. Some think it is because they'd have to pay royalties to MS.
