Really? So you think there are people who would spend 600$ on a console when this is a computer forum? Meaning that most people here, who want good graphics any way - are going to play those graphically beautiful games on their expensive gaming machine. And for games, they're going to have a $250 Nintendo Wii (perhaps even $200 according to some)

As for blue-ray, IMO I cannot hope enough that it fails miserably and HD-DVD is the next standard. Blue-Ray has been an absolute joke so far, using mpeg-2? WTF sony? Sony is a joke lately too, I will never forgive them for the memory stick, and then the stick duo escapade. And does anyone remember mini-disc? I feel sorry for people who buy into Sony proprietary crap, and especially so for anyone who owns a PSP or plan on buying the PS3 for that $600 price tag.

I won't get a PS3 until the price gets chopped down to $400 for the premium, and I'm also putting all my efforts into convincing everyone of the evils of Blu-Ray.

I'm perfectly happy with the idea of owning a PC, 360, DS, and Wii. Sony products just don't fit into my outlook for the next few years, especially after I sold my PSP and my PS2 died. (I still own an original Xbox and GC, btw)

Blu-ray is useful for 720p. Do you think dvd displays at 720 or something?

Your plan is nearly identical to mine. I have all the same systems and plan on getting a PS3 at some point, but it won't likely be till a year or two after its release. Wii will be bought at launch.

Of course, you haven't tried the controls, and haven't played the games ;)
The tech is irrelevant to the gameplay experience.
360, PS3, and PC are really the only true options for adult gamers... who care more about pretty graphics and are willing to shell out more $$$ to get them.

unless of course you like mario... i dont..

<---- Adult gamer

Nothing wrong with Mario... Mario Power Tennis is way more fun than a realistic tennis game to me. The Mario soccer game is way more fun than FIFA to me.

Fire Emblem... great stuff. I've never really gotten into any RPG outside of the Final Fantasy series (which I haven't played beyond FF VI), but Fire Emblem is one of my favorite games.

I like my Xbox too though, it has some games that were never ported to the GameCube because the GameCube is seen as a "kids" system. I hope Nintendo can shake that "stigma" this time around so I can get all of the games I want on one system.

The PS3 would have to drop to about $150 for me to even consider it. Other than Metal Gear Solid, it doesn't have anything that I care about. As far as playing movies, I don't have anything close to an HDTV, so DVDs are fine for me.

I do plan on getting a ps3 one day when its cheaper.

But not for its blu-ray drive but only because its another game system. but even that is dependent upon ps3 getting exclusive titles. final fantasy and MGS are of no interest to me. I consider them movie video games. with development costs rising I expect to see lots of game go multiplatform anyhow. so they'll have to have some really really good stuff.

also I'd rather pay for a high quality blu-ray player than used a cheap quality one. assuming blu-ray wins out.

Where's the option for "I'd only get a PS3 if it cost $300 and didn't come with a blu-ray drive because I don't appreciate sony insulting my intelligence by thinking that I'll actually buy their system for $600 so they can shove their unnecessary drive down our throat to try to corner the market against HD-DVD just because it's the magical PS3 that they think us sheep gamers can't live without and will pay anything for?"

You might want to edit that out a bit though. :p

You forgot the option for, "I plan to get one, then re-sell it at an inflated price to some sucker that didn't pre-order."

exactly.... 400 was already pushing my limit (for the 360) and there is no way in hell I will pay 599 to get a ps3 to play the same games.

I hope hd-dvd will win as well because its better now. the only hope bluray has (and is something thats very scary) is the bd only movie studios being stubborn and not going format neutral. I never expect sony to go to hd-dvd but if all the others do then the content will be a wash and bd will be dead with hd-dvd's price advantages and overall superior product right now.

I HATED the N64 and GameCube. AWEFUL, just aweful consoles for adults. Some may still enjoy playing Mario games, but I got tired of Mario games after...um....yeah, Super Mario Brothers on the NES. SMB was great, but freakin' Mario is played out.

That being said, I'm willing to give the Wii a shot. They are taking a totally different approach to consoles compared to the 360 and PS3. And for the rumored price of $170, you just can't go wrong with it. I'll take the 360 and Wii FTW. PS3 FTL due to my utter hatred for Sony.

I know it doesn't display at full 720p but I can't imagine the difference being worth it. I've played 1080p clips on my monitor next to a DVD and can't see much difference at all. Not $600 worth. MY TV is sort of cheap anyway, doesn't have great color and I see banding sometimes.

Hmm, half the buyers do care and another quarter care a little. If Sony ships the 1 million units to the US in 2006 that people expect, that's 500,000 to 750,000 people in the US who are interested in the blu-ray capabilities.

Double that if the crack-smoking Sony execs fulfill their claim of 4 million units shipped in 2006.

I wonder if HD-DVD will have sold even 50,000 units in the US by then?

Well, I'm not positive that we're a sample of the general PS3 buying public, probably leaning a little more towards the newer tech.

I'm sure sony will put more blu-ray players in people's hands, but HD-DVD has something blu-ray will not have for a long time. Name rec.

Everyone I know that isnt a gamer, but does buy DVDs, such as the older folks, have no idea wtf a blu-ray is, but they ALL know what HD-DVD is.

I don't even know wtf you are asking. Maybe it is too early. Am I planning to get 'one'? 'One' what? A Blu-Ray drive or a PS3?

i don't plan on giving sony a cent after all these recent fiascos. but it would be nice to be able to play Blu-Ray movies. after all, spending 500-600 bucks for something with a blu-ray drive that can't play movies is stupid. also, sony did this with the PS2 and it brought DVD into the mainstream. i suspect they will also do the same now.

People always seem to forget that DVD was already a hot item well before the PS2 was released. I don't know why Sony's alternate version of reality is always accepted as truth.

for some reason, the ps3 appeals to me. I have never bought a system for more than 70 bucks. But the PS3 with all its got and games like RE5, MGS4, and eventually games like God of War 2 and etc have me very excited.
