It's ok not to work for any reason you choose. I just say I'm not coming in. If someone finds it necessary to lie, that's fine too.

Nope. I may have not been sick enough that I couldn't do my job in some meaningful way, but I've never lied about being sick just to get a day off.

No, if I am not feeling well, we are asked not to come in (hospital) so we have the option of working from home. If I am so sick I do not feel I can work even from home, then I take a sick day.

Since the 11th is a federal holiday and I am off, I won't need to call in sick to play through Halo: Master Chief Collection that day. :D

The extent of what I state is "I am not feeling well and won't be in today"; even when I am feeling well.
I do check emails throughout the day and respond to important ones.

I dont have to give any reason when i use my sickdays. I am rarely ill and my boss knows, that if I ask for sickday, there is a good reason for it.

Every time one of my mistresses was giving birth I'd show up, sometimes having to use sick time. I feel it's important to be there whether the child is legitimate or elsewise.

Yes. I work to live not live to work.

And there's no special place in heaven for people who keep a meticulous attendance record.

edit: and furthermore if you're afraid that taking some days off for being sick might cost you your job, you probably aren't doing a very good job.

No. Abusing policies is why they end up being policies in the first place.

My last employer gave us sick time. But you only could use sick time after your burned your first day from the PTO bank. So you would get sick, burn a PTO, and then you were in the bonus round of Sick bank.

No one ever sick for just one day. That lasted for years and then they pulled the policy and made it three days of PTO before you got into the sick bank.

I picked only on rare unavoidable circumstances - but, it is for job interviews. I never call in sick for partying too hard,.. there is never such a thing as "too hard".

I get to work from home 2-3 days a week so those are my "sanity days" where I get to sit around in my pajamas. I maybe play hooky with a sick day once a year at most.

I don't think I've ever taken a sick day. If you really are sick, yeah, don't come to work. I don't want your germs. If you're just hung over, suck it up buttercup.

I rarely call in sick. I think I've used maybe 3 sick days in the 4+ years I've been working here and I would have been useless if I had come in on those days.

Congratulations people. You're the perfect corporate bitch boys. I'm sure the guy working till noon and smoking hundred dollar cigars at the golf course appreciates it.

I just tell my boss that I am taking a sick day. Leave it at that and that's it.

no but I used to negotiate all days as personal days so I ultimately had all the discretion. Try it most employers wont care.
