Do you buy your hardware from big shops (newegg, etc) or smaller online shops?

I recently though about the question of where to buy stuff for my new build. Newegg has the best prices on some of the stuff, however on hardware smaller online shops do have better price. I have been looking around pricewatch.com and google shopping and so far I found 3 item that else in smaller shops:

Samsung F1 1 TB hardrive is $10 less than newegg (includes shipping) in memorylabs
Intel E8400 is $6 less (includes shipping) in futurepowerpc compared to newegg
Antec P182 Black Case is $46 (includes shipping) less another small shop compared to newegg

I am definitely getting the P182 elsewhere, but with small difference in price for the HD and CPU I have been wondering if I should bother. It might be nice support a small guy and get for cheaper price, but then not sure about their service.

What do you guys usually do? Just get everything one store, like Newegg? Shop around for price and get it from smaller stores (if it is cheaper)?

"Prices" don't make up the total online buying experience.
Vendor reputation and customer service are of equal value in my decision where to buy.

Depends on what I need. For things like a hard drive or a cpu, I would stick with the well known vendors that have good feedback.
If it is something not critical, like hardware or a dvd burner, I would shop around, see the best prices & best shipping costs. Also in some cases, how fast I need it would be a factor. I live in NJ so I also have a Microcenter in Paterson that has a good stock of items for emergency needs.

Like what other are saying, it depends on who they are and their reputation. Even then I wouldn't go to a dozen different sites to build a single PC. Usually Newegg, and maybe one or two other sites.

Yup, it depends. I almost always order my cooling products from the smaller websites that specialize in them. Sidewindercomputers.com usually has more choices and lower prices than newegg.

On my most recent order (enough parts to build a brand new PC), I spent 71% at newegg, 26.45% at zipzoomfly, and 2.55% at sidewindercomputers.

Only if the smaller shop has a good rep on reseller ratings. I don't like to take chances just to save a few bucks. It's kind of like buying a no-name psu. It's cheap but you don't know how long it's going to last and if it will take your hardware with it. You usually spend more money for quality.

I'm a little "tight" when it comes to spending $$. So when I shop, I look for the cheapest price, based on overall quality of the item including the seller's customer service!

The small price differences probably aren't worth "risking" going through a less reliable or reputable dealer. But Newegg routinely does not have the lowest price on cases, so for that particular part shopping elsewhere is usually a good idea.

newegg has the best site that I know of for searching for items and researching. That alone makes it worth going there.
