Ingots? Foreign coins? Domestic coins? Newer coins or older rare coins? Certified or un-certified? A mix of all of the previous answers?

Why do you buy what you buy?

That was the thread that really piqued my interest as far as precious metals were concerned, but not enough information, and it was about buying gold specifically. There was a new post in there that had some good links though, so thanks for reminding me. :)

When you say "certified or un-certified", do you mean coins that have been graded and encapsulated by third-party companies?

Yes, either PCGS or NGC.

Right answer! :)

You obviously haven't been tracking prices lately. :p

As a long-term investment, I'm with FoBoT.

But then again, I don't think that anything which isn't long term is really an "investment".

Today would be a great day to buy some VFINX or another S&P500 fund, now that we've had a nice dip.

Gold has been a lousy long-term investment for decades, though like anything else you could make money gambling on short-term trading.
