Do you buy a notebook

I would buy a laptop for portability. I would play games on my desktop.

THe laptop would basically be used for school work, but not necassarily note taking.

I bought a laptop for school in early 2001. Still use it all the time for almost everything EXCEPT gaming. For that I've built a monster of a desktop. I'm surprised how well that laptop has held up. It's been all over the world; it's been used in subzero temps, it's even been dropped once. Works like a charm!

both....i bought a huge laptop (weighs 9 lbs) freshman year in college. I am eagerly waiting to get myself a lighter one.

I had a heavy one and it just sucked carriing that beast around.

I got a 600M which has a good weight to performance ratio.

I got a portable one. But now a days you can get a very nicely specced Sony 13"3 widescreen with everything AND a good 6200go with 128MB. That is 'quite' good and it is s till only 1.97Kg with a built in DVD-/+RW. I'd get that but I don't need a laptop as much anymore.

I have a new Toshiba laptop (this is my third Toshiba lappy) and this one is the thinest and lightest by far. Still, it rarely leaves the island in our kitchen.

Right on, get it for both. I have friends over a lot to BS and put a few drinks back. But what is a real blast is when they all bring their laptops and we can break out on some Quake3 or Unreal Tournoment on the wireless LAN.

You don't need much hardware to run games like that so make sure the video does not stink too bad.

So it always wins immunity?
