For example... let's say i messed with jsp once and i know how to create a "Hello World" output on a webpage. Would you put that you know jsp on your resume? Or how bout if all you know how to do is create a gpa calculator in c++. Would you put down c++ on your resume?

I think that would be pushing it. If the job doesn't require it then go ahead and put it down. I don't see the harm in that, but if there is a possibility they might ask you to do some C++ then you are in trouble.

Maybe put you have some experience with jsp or c++, that way if they do ask you questions then you are covered.

My resume is accurate.. It looks really bad in an interview if you can't answer a question related to a skill on your resume.

Depends how much knowledge you have of this particular point
And it depends how much knowledge of this point is needed.

If all you need to do is write a calculator program, then sure. But if they want you to write an operating system, well you figure it out!

My examples in the first post were kinda exaggerated. I've made some SIMPLE webpages using jsp, and I've done a lot of big (unuseful) programs in c++ for my courses at school. But I don't think I can go nutts with any of them yet. So on my resume, should I divide my knowledge based on level of skill?

ie

Skills: java, html, lisp...blah blah

Experience in c++, jsp

?

That's much safer, and will save you from wasting each other's time if a company needs a skilled c++ programmer.

If this is your for first jpb (maybe even second) you can probably get away with listing a large class project or two using languages like c++ that you're semi-skilled in, i.e. "Co-wrote point-of-sale / inventory program in c++ and jsp" just be careful to put these in a "class projects" section or something similar so it doesn't look like you're trying to mislead the reader. We get annoyed, and toss yours into the discard pile

For me, it's a decade since college so I'll be cutting things out of my resume instead of trying to pad it next time I'm job-hunting.
