I did. I believed that the Church buried the truth of Mary Magdalene and that there's been a secret sect that's keeper of the truth. It's not all that inconceivable... and in fact very likely imo.

Not after reading "Digital Fortress", Dan Brown's book at the NSA and cryptography that is so wrong that it's funny. I know a lot more about that than about the topic of the Davinci Code, but I imagine it's just as amusing to people who know something about THAT field.

I don't understand why Dan Brown is so despised, there's a long line of pulp authors whose works take a lot of liberty warping or downright replacing known facts at the time of the writing, but the read is none the less enjoyable for it. Edgar Rice Burroughs is an excellent example and one of my favorite authors.

Many of the ideas presented in the book are actual theories and/or speculation that scholars have made.

After reading...I thought that maybe..just maybe...some of the theories could possibly true. However, after seeing a really good special on TV...most of the theories were completely debunked. I am going to have to give a definite no on this one.

I read it just to see why the hell it was the #1 best seller for like 180 weeks in a row. I understand why: because it paints a controversial view of the church. The controversial view stretched the truth quite a bit and down right lied in parts. It was mildly entertaining but not enough to warrant being the #1 best seller for so long.

Sure, it's meant to be fiction but Dan Brown portrays himself as an expert in the field of religion and art history. On one of the documentaries I saw that debunked a lot of the Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown said that he believed in a lot of what he wrote in the Da Vinci Code. That's kind of stupid considering a lot of it is circumstantial and other parts are a huge stretch.
