I think I read elsewhere that something like 2 million highschool kids have tried them too.

Have things really changed in the last decade? I'm sure that when I was in highschool basically no kids were on steroids at all. Recreational drugs, sure, but to do steroids properly takes quite a bit of money over a consistent period of time. It's not like finding $20 and buying some extacy. And 9 year old girls? Where the hell is a 9 year old getting enough money to do a cycle of roids? I just don't believe it. I put this next to the 1/6 girls and 1/4 guys who've had a homosexual encounter (that was a stat taught to me in health cclass, which is certainly nonsense).
 
doesnt surprise me. times are changing fast. i graduated HS in '99. It seemed like our HS (a blue ribbon school) went downhill after our class graduated. class of 2000 apparantly had some big time drug dealers who got busted for dealing heroine, cocaine, X, weed, etc. Some girls from class of 2001 got busted for prostitution. There were reports of girls giving heads to guys in the school theater, guys and girls getting into orgies in the locker rooms after school. I mean nothing like this even happened, let alone get out into the public when I was in HS...
 
I graduated HS back in '88, and even then there were people I knew who were very likely on the juice. I know one guy whose brother confirmed as much.
 
I was in high school alittle over 10 years ago. I know for a fact that some kids were going anabolic steroids.
Actually one of the towns over from where I grew up had a huge steroid scandal on their high school football team.

Steroids aren't as difficult to get as any other recreational drug, and they aren't looked down on like other drugs.

If you get caught doing roids, you aren't labeled a drug user or junkie. But when you get caught doing cocaine or
another drug, you do. Not to mention some people really will look the other way when it comes to steroids.

Besides the ones that want to do better in physical sports, other will use it for a toned muscular body.
You can use steroids to tone muscle, not just build muscle mass.
 
While I am sure there were some kinds who used steriods at my school ( i lived in the very affluent town of Danville, CA) I never saw it being used. Like you said, the financial requirements would be prohibitive for most I would think, unless they make some sort of generic steriods now?
