Do you believe in ghosts? (true story)

Brief history:

My grandfather died 1985. He left his car (1976 Camaro, white, 350 4 bbl) to my brother who is two years older than I am. My brother drove the care for a year, got another car and it was in storage for a year until I turned sixteen. I had the car for about 3 months nothing special, I was happy to own a car.

Incident:

One summer day in Ohio I go to my friends house who always had parties, his mom was never there, we could crash on the couch, etc. so it was a great place to party, right? Well, this friend and I go cruising around town all day anticipating the night that was about to unfold. (lots of friends, beer, etc.) He was fifteen at the time and kept asking me to drive the car.

Well, knowing how special this car was and he was only fifteen, I kept telling him, "Yeah, maybe later." I really didn't want him to drive my car, he had no experience and he was underage.

The day drags on and I never gave him permission to drive it. The night comes, people arrive at his house we had a good time.

At about one or so in the morning, party is dead (remember we are 15, 16 ,17 :p) I was crashed on the couch. I am rudely awakened by my best friend yelling, "Dude, dude took your car and crashed it into a house!" I'm like, "Whatever dude, stop messin' around."

Well, he actually did take my car without permission and with two other people crashed it into a house. He was wasted drunk. Cops, ambulances, fire trucks abound. Parents, omg....bad scene. Totaled car.

The ghost story:
The car didn't have a tape player in the deck. (remember 1987) So to listen to my favorite tapes I had a tape player/radio in the back seat. I had a tape in there. It was a comercial tape of LL Cool J's BAD.

The next day after the "incident" my parents take me to the junk yard to retrieve the few possesions that were left in the car like radio, tapes, etc.

Couple of months down the road I place this LL Cool J tape in a player to listen to some cool jams, right? Well, what happened was apparently this comercial tape recorded the voices of all three ocupants of the night joy ride into a house! Before they even got into the car! You could hear the doors slam shut! The particular song was interrupted by their voices and lasted for about 30 seconds and then kept playing.

It's the most bizzare thing I have ever witnessed. My best friend heard the tape too, so I know I was not hallucinating.

To the skeptics:
To my knowledge you cannot record over a commercial tape unless you put scotch tape over the tabs. (old trick to use a crappy bought tape over again) There was no tape over the tabs.

Conclusion:
To me this proves the existence of paranormal activity. This is a true story. Also this proves the existence of life after death, because I feel my grandfather did this. He loved this car, it was one of his true joys in life. Also in the police report, the friend that wrecked my car said that I gave him permission to drive it. I never did and I feel that ole grandpa was looking out for me.

Just because a standard was established by most tape manufacturers (do not record on a tape if a certain part is not solid, etc) does not mean that all manufacturers will adhere to it.

Maybe the tape deck you were using was made by a ghetto manufacturer and it would record onto any old tape regardless of whether it was commerical or not.

For example, most DVD players use Macrovision, but Apex does not adhere to it (through a loophole menu) so this sort of thing happens all the time.

Maybe a piece of paper got stuck over the opening.

Maybe the tape player malfunctioned.

Consumer electronics malfunction all the time. My computer crashes at least once a day. I don't necessarily think that my grandfather's ghost causes it.

regardless of whether or not this has anything to do with ghosts, I hope you kicked your friend's ass for this.

No our friendship ended after this. Very odd seeing him 10 years later. (I moved to North Carolina and went back to Ohio every now and then)

I have seen two ghosts for sure. It was not a haunted house type thing, both were at the mall (separate incidents). They are similar stories so I'll tell the best one. One summer break from college I was working at a department store as a stock guy, unloading trucks and putting stuff in people's cars etc. I was on my way to/from the electronics stockroom to get a big TV or something to load for a customer, on my way I saw a guy I recognized from my high school. He was a year younger, I didn't know him, but he had a real distinctive appearance -really long blonde hair, pretty feminine looking really- that I remembered from school. Something about him struck me as odd, I remember kind of staring at him, he was playing video games at a display set up in the electronics department.

Anyway, a night or two later our local newspaper had a story about how it had been a year ago that a local student wrecked his car and died coming home from a graduation party. The story talked with his mom about how she hadn't really gotten over it and had left his room exactly as it had been that night. They had a picture of the student, and it was him. Someone I later told the story to who had known him told me that he was big video game player.

Frankly people who deny ghosts have their heads up their ass-umptions. There's only all of human history with people in every culture reporting ghosts, but people put more faith in a "scientific" judgement based on theories as primitive as those of the past (phlogiston, spontaneous generation etc) appear to us now. I personally don't think that the ghost was really "him", more just an "echo" that hadn't faded out, but that's just my gut feeling.

Unfortunately I don't have the tape any longer. I didn't realize the importance and it got lost somewhere along the way. I do have a picture of the car though but I can't get my damn scanner working with my whack a$$ version of Windows. I'll take the pic to work tomorrow and get it scanned and post it.

I'm serious, I'm not kidding around here. This is for real.

<< No, I tried to recreate recording on the exact same tape. No go. >>

Ghetto equipment malfunctions in unpredictable ways.

You would have to recreate the exact same conditions of that night to be able to recreate the exact malfunction. Same temperature, same humidity level, just the same amount of vibration, etc. Not knowing the exact conditions that led to the malfunction, you may not be able to recreate the same malfunction.

My computer never crashes the exact same way twice. But still, I don't go looking for ghosts under my desk.

Hah bellycows, you're not taking this in are you?

ANYWAYS, i believe in ghosts as well. I, for one, have not seen one (don't really want to either), but my family is deeply entrenched in the spiritual world.
