Me, too...

I started a thread where some people confessed their ghost stories but I can't find it!!!!!

It had some pretty spooky true tales.

Anyway, if you can fidn the thread, go ahead and link it. I don't really want to write all that down again... too freaky!

Of course I believe in ghosts, I have a couple of um on my hard drive.

So far my story is that I haven't needed them.

thanks pcaddict for the links to those archived threads, i'll enjoy reading them.

now give it up guys, lets hear them stories. The worst is that the community here will think you are a whacko and you will have to get a new identity.

hehehe

The stores I have are contained in Isla's missing thread. I am not retyping them. I hope we find that thread...

No, and no. What is the mechanism whereby they might exist and what purpose in nature would they fulfill?

It's likely that the mechanism underlying the formulation of such a concept is fear -- fear of death being permanent -- and the purpose is emotional gratification -- comforting hope that scary death is not permanent.

If there are ghosts, are they affected by gravity? If not, shouldn't they be haunting some empty part of space? If so, does this mean they have mass?

Can ghosts learn or remember? What do they use instead of brains? Are there a spiritual-sciences that the ghosts of scientists are working out among themselves to explain these questions?

So no, I don't believe in ghosts.

I have a sort of ghost story...

I used to live in an older house in the historic district of the town, and from the day we moved in, I used to have funny feelings about the place. I developed some pretty bad insomnia, and used to stay up late at night watching television. I would occasionally fall asleep on the couch, and would often wake up suddenly with the feeling that something/someone was standing over me. Every so often, I'd catch sight of something moving out of the corner of my eye, but never really saw anything specific. Well, this went on for about 8 years, until finally I moved about a year and a half ago. I was telling a friend I had met through my son's school about the house and how weird it always felt there - turns out she works for the historical society, and they've been getting reports for years of ghosts in that area but have never made a big deal out of it. The whole block was built over the city's first cemetery (which was "moved" down the block in the late 1800's), and my house would have been pretty much in the center of the original cemetery.

So to answer the thread title, I do believe in ghosts, sort of. I think maybe it's more like residual energy, or something like that. I don't think these are tortured souls doomed to walk the earth for all eternity, but maybe in the right circumstances with the right conduit, some people can occasionally pick up on those energy fields left behind when someone dies.

Just my unscientific one cent. :)

Good for you, CGirl!

I know how hard it is to speak up about stuff like this, especially in this forum.

I also think that women are more likely to pick up on subtle shifts in energy than men are, simply because we are raised to pay closer attention in order to please. We are trained to pay attention to the moods of others!

Anyway, as unscientific as you think your opinion might be, there are plenty of very scientific people out there who HAVE measured slight differences in 'haunted' places. Of course everyone is arguing back and forth about what these things mean, but the bottom line is, some very sane and intelligent people (such as yourself) have experienced paranormal phenomena. I won't get into any arguments about it because it is useless. However, sharing our experiences does seem to help... you are not crazy, and you are not the only one... so maybe this stuff is somewhat 'normal', just unexplained/unproven scientifically as of yet. Just like God. :)

The truth is, we really don't know how these things work... and most of us are scared of things we don't understand. It is threatening in a way, but I have just learned to live with it and not let it have too much of an effect on me.

Just my .02!

edit: I don't have any beliefs about what these things/experiences are or are not. Just that there is something there, be it for better or for worse. People who think they have it all figured out amaze me...

naw no ghosts, as in tortured souls, i believe that there is not seprate "spirit" from the body to be tortured. There are "spiritual" entitys, but they where never humans, or physical biengs, and sometimes those things can messs with people, and make them think things... But once your dead, your dead, you are only remembered, like a computer without a harddrive, but it decays faster.. .

I would like to believe in an afterlife including ghosts, but it's just too hard to believe right now. I would need to see evidence first hand to make me into a believer.
