The Door

It?s not circular, triangular nor any shape
It closes on you, sometimes it opens
Although you choose your own path, but it?s always unpredictable and full of surprises
Surprise of happiness, sadness or something else unexpected
You are often walking through a door with a very careful guidance
From time to time, there?s a beautiful realm behind that particular door
However, a nightmare can be waiting for you as well
What is next always? blocked by the door, your path seems to be already decided by some ones else.
Perhaps there is really a woodman marking which tree to cut
Do you believe in fate?

IMO, fate is only a random set of events that is occuring at a specific time in your life, and you have FULL control of what will happen and what will come in the future. Add some good/bad luck, and you have what we call fate.

No, to believe in fate is to not believe in free will. There is no choosing your own path with fate, it is already chosen.

To say that it was fate that took your life in the direction it is going in, is a cop-out, and screams insecurity.

We are the captain of our own ships... and Isiac makes good damn margaritas on my ship!

What i'm doing tomorrow, whether it is going to class or not, eating at a specific place, study or not, is solely my OWN decision. The future is just the consequence of these decisions.

If you believe in fate, then you may as well just sit back and smoke a fatty for life, because the SOB is already decided....................wait that didn't come out right!

Also, if people truly believed in fate, then why would people do anything since they can not change anything. Life would be dull, sad, and pointless. There would be no regret in a world controlled by fate, because there would be no hope.

nope, it's better to control your future and have high hopes than believe in fate where you cannot excel past a certain limit.

or as someone else said... fate my ass... :D

This sort questions have been answered millions of times in history and basically we can't find any more new words.

There's indeed something you called fate in the scale of the whole cosmos. Everything is bounded to happen in future. All your thoughts and decisions made in future are also subjected to happen. :)

Our cosmos is composed by trillions of tiny particles, like atoms, electrons, quarks and smaller particles. All these particles MUST follow the principles of the physics, including those we know and a lot of what we don't know yet. Thus from some extremely broad sense, if you can understand the EXACT information of all particles's initial condition(like position, speed, momentum, charge, etc) and ALL physic principles applied, in thoery, you should can calculate and foresee all events happened for the whole system(the cosmos) to the remote future. And in this case, it's called fate.

Certainly, we will never be able to figure out all those "initial conditions and principles" accurately, that's why we can't be God after all. But someone's inability to do something doesn't disapprove the possibility of doing something. :)

On the other hand, I admit that believing you have the ability to change future and your own fate is a positive way and benefits you, although this belief is also determined by "FATE" :)

You either believe in fate or in free will. Not both.

I don't think I need to believe in free will since I haven't seen any (scientific) evidence which clearly shows us that 'free will' does not exist, but if 'fate' truly exists, then everything we do, think, etc. is predetermined and we would never know the difference between 'fate' and 'free will', so if fate is real, then free will as we know it is just an illusion.
