With so many people running SETI @ Home, I wonder how many actually think about aliens. Personally, I think they're out there but we just don't know of them.

Oh, and sorry if this is a repost, I was gone for a week.

That is one hell of a waste of space if we are alone. I would hope something is out there.

I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists somewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

I'm willing to admit the possibility that they exist somewhere in the universe. However, I seriously doubt they spend their free time abducting people from Alabama trailer parks.

If aliens didn't exist, why is the human race the only intelligent species in the whole galaxy? Is the human race a fluke? What are the chances of humans being the only intelligent species in this HUGE galaxy of ours?

Additionally, it would be interesting to know if those who believe in aliens also believe in God and vice versa. I'm not trying to start a flame war, but it would be interesting to hear the thoughts on the existence of two things that I doubt anyone has actually "seen".

I believe that there are aliens out there... but I don't think they are trying to make contact with us.

They probably believe the motto, the less you have to do with your neighbor the better... and I agree.

So all you star trek fans, stop watching the sky for the next shiny thing to answer your prayer.

yeah, there must be life on other planets...space just seems too big to be empty except for us.

I believe in aliens because of my knowledge of the universe and statistics, I don't believe in god for the very same reasons.

I agree with your reasoning, I feel the same way.

I think there are aliens out there, but due to the distances involved we'll probably never get to get in contact with each other. I don't believe in abductions, and I don't think we've ever been visited.

There's an old book called "Chariot of the Gods" that makes the case that alien visitations have influenced cultures throughout history. It's an interesting read even if you don't believe it.

I think I know most tof the arguments. It is also quite possible that we also occasionally become something alien ourselves. But I don't know and therefore I like to assume that we are alone and unique, the only self aware consciousnesses in the universe. I do so because I want to remember what a truly unique event that may be, matter to which consciousness and wonder adhere. How utterly amazing and how profoundly interesting that we should be at war and have huclear weapons. How utterly san and asleep humanity is. How utterly we hate our children that we would create this world for them.

I just hope they are smarter than the "aliens" in Battlefield Earth I saw the other night.

But on a more serious note, of course I believe in them. Do I think we'll make contact in my lifetime? Very unlikely.

What are the chances of other planets having the same temperature ranges as ours given the size of the planet, the size of sun, the composition of the atmosphere?

Yes.

We superimposed some intelligible modulation over a 550 MW Maser at 3.35 GHz and we got an answer back. :Q
