Do you backup data to CDRs or CDRWs?

A few days ago I made a CDRW with directCD and put all of my downloaded programs, patches, utils, etc. on it. Then I tried to download another prog and tried to save it directly to the cdrw disk, and then it gave me a message saying that an unrecoverable read error occured and all data on that cd was gone. (Should I not try to download programs directly to a DirectCD, and instead save them to the HD first?) I erased it and reformatted it and now it is only a 533MB disc. Are CDRWs made with directCD not very reliable? What do the rest of you typically use? The only reason I went with CDRW was so I could rewrite directories, drag and drop files, and replace old patches/utils with newer versions as they become available, but it isnt worth it if it malfunctions this easily. So what type of backup schemes do you use? Would I be better off with a CDR with copies of everything just in case a cdrw gets ruined, and then a cdrw to keep the latest versions on?

BTW I was using directCD 3.03 and win2k. Are there any known compatibility issues?
 
Well I just use Nero and plain cdr discs. They're so cheap now that being unable to rewrite isn't a problem. And just to be safe, I would download to hd first, then burn. 🙂
 
After some time, some cd-rw disks become unreadable. I have had this happen twice to me. If you use cd-rws for important backups, make sure you make at least 2 copies, or use a cd-r disk to be safer.
