I have to hand wash my convertible. The high-pressure water jets get water in the car between the windows and the retractable roof.

I only auto-wash when it's bitterly cold out and I want to get the gunk off really bad.

I never wash my car at home - too easy to scratch it.

I usually use the high-pressure do-it-yourself washing stations. They've got the lowest likelihood of scratching.

Of course, it all depends on how much you care about your car and how much mjoney you have :)

I use to hand-wash, now I auto-wash. I don't have the time anymore and it does a good enough job if you do the laser wash.

Well, my dad works at a bus garage, so I go up there and wash my truck...

they have a wash bay with a pressure sprayer, so first I spray down the truck (with water and soap) and then I scrub the truck down with a brush they have there (very soft bristled) and then I rinse it off with the pressure sprayer...

after that, I shamy it all off and make the tires look like they're wet...

I voted for hand-wash, although i'm lazy and take it to the local full service wash place.

Does that still count? ;)

when i lived across the street from it i used the self-wash thing... you know the one, you put quarters in the side and it operates until time runs out. haven't gotten my car washed since i moved. ah well.

I don't handwash for the following reasons:

getting some dude to hand wash it costs like $15 bucks (twice the cost of most expensive auto wash)

doing it yourself takes too much time (and sucks in winter)

you get a discount on autowash if you buy gas with it

hand wash. I do take the Jeep to the wash bays with the super high pressure spray to do the undercarriage, though. The mud and dirt will not come off with a normal hose.

I'll won't be hand washing my car for a long time. Last time I did it, I totally screwed it up. I had these tree sap dots around my car that I couldn't get off. I used a harder sponge than normal and it came right off no problem. Then my car dried and boy was I screwed. Scratches all around the car. Had to bring it to a detailer who buffed them out and cleaned the entire exterior of my car. Cost about $100 but was well worth it since I had no clue how to fix it.
