I had a knock on the door one nite about 3 AM when it was raining and went to the door was a female police officer who took about 3 steps back and dropped her hand to her gun when I did. Seems they get bogus ones with lightning strikes sometimes she said and left, I thought they usually come inside to check things when they get those, but she didn't seem interested

I seem to have kind of a way of unnerving people when I come to the door disturbed it seems.

My first mother in law (who ended up much cooler than the first wife did, go figure) gave me a good one for Jehova's Witness's. She said to invited them inside to pray and they'll run for the hills, I guess they aren't supposed to outside of their circle.

When I was in Hawaii in the Marines was funny, lived in an apartment building on the second floor near a guy who of all things was a former Baptist minister and joined also, lived next door. We could see if they were coming up the hill. He would get in theological discussions with them on Sunday mornings and burn them on misquoting things, if I saw them coming up I'd crank my stereo up and turn on the Jim Morrison rant "When I was in Seminary School...... " thing.

I've done it but i shouldn't. twice it was the census person and once it was 2 guys selling kids educational books, which seemed really odd because of the time they came. I think I posted about it here back when it happened.

Not normally, no. We get a lot of solicitors and no one I know would just pop by without letting me know. Therefore it can't be anyone I want to talk to.

I usually do during "business hours". I order a lot of stuff and oftentimes its UPS/FedEx/OnTrac/postman. Plus there's the pest control and yard guy. After about 5PM I don't. Family would call before they come over (or as they're driving up).

Think of it as practice. Being able to converse comfortably with strangers isn't something you're born with. Acquiring the skill increases familiarity and lessens conflict which raises safety and security.

I think i have had 1 guy come by trying to sell beef out of a unmarked truck. I don't count kids.

That's just it, the average ATOTer doesn't just avoid solicitors, they avoid everyone at least in person. I do average more non solicitors than not.

You frame it like it's a bad thing. Social, and antisocial are valueless states. They're just a state of existence, and equal in quality.

I've had to deal with lots of people from all different backgrounds, and that cured me of any desire of wanting to deal with people. There's good and bad, but I largely just want everyone to fuck off, and leave me alone.
