Do you answer the door when you aren't expecting anyone?

I sure don't.

An hour ago I was downstairs in the kitchen enjoying my lunch when I heard the doorbell rang. I wasn't expecting anyone so I was like heck, probably a solicitor. So I continued on eating, when I kept hearing the doorbell rang. I got curious so I went and peek to see who it was.

It was an old man and a lady. I think the lady was carrying a clipboard. It wasn't any of my neighbors that I recognized, so I just continue to peek outside to see what they would do. I overheard the lady saying something along the lines of "I can't believe someone could be this ignorant". Said it pretty loudly too and walked away. The old man started knocking and then yelled out, "Hello!".

They then left.

I am here thinking what the heck that was all about. Would salespeople really wait for someone that long? Perhaps, they knew someone was inside or saw someone going inside. You would think they would move on after the first or second knock.

Strange

Yes, I do.

I very rarely get people here trying to sell things.

The last time I remember someone knocking unexpectedly, it was my landlord. He had driven by and noticed that that my rear passenger-side tire was completely deflated, so he came back around to let me know. (The bead had rusted.)
That was more than 2 years ago.

The Jesus advertisers in the area do their door-to-door pestering during business hours, so I'm merely treated to little pamphlets or postcards stuck in my storm door whenever there's a Jesus-related holiday.

Crime: The last incidence of significant criminal activity nearby that I know of was when a drunk person entered a house on my street, cooked themselves a meal, ate it, and then left.
My stove now has a timed lock over the dials, and there's a motion sensor in the oven. You can't trust anyone these days.

Nope, never. If it's a friend of mine or the family's, they'll call before dropping by.

It's not like back in the old days when the smiling door to door salesman tried to sell your wife vacuum cleaners, so she can "suck better (wink wink)." The ol' water heater scam has been running rampant for the last few years around these parts. They show up at the door and try and sell you an energy contract. Of course they don't really work for the gas company. They're getting more aggressive too now that people are catching on to their shenanigans.

We don't get the religious folks dropping by too often anymore. Probably because I've been a dick to them over the years. I often wonder if they've ever actually converted someone by going door to door.

This is easily a locality question, and I pretty much don't. UPS is big around making themselves noticed ninja-like and often ring the bell when they have already delivered the package.

I get neighborhood kids scrounging for work every once in a while, but I happen to enjoy shoveling snow and mowing grass.

I never answer either. I am in a middle class neighborhood (not gated) and get at least 2 or 3 unexpected drones every week. I used to go upstairs and look but now I do not bother. (I do have a home made sign that says no solicitors). Also the bell has been broken for a few years.

Generally, no. If anyone rings my apartment number on my building, I know it's because they're a fucking idiot and can't even look 3" lower to realize there's other apartments. (It's a 30+ button panel with each apartment having its separate number for ringing. But some people think the first 7-8 apartment numbers that they see you just use to get to the others. SO STUPID AND CAN'T EVEN LOOK DOWN.)

I swear, it's the worst. They're fucking idiots. I go up there and say, "LOOK DOWN." And I swear to god, some of them are like, "Whaaat? Just let me in!"

"You're an idiot!" And I just leave and let them ring my apartment all they want.

Bunch of morons.

I don't answer the door or phone if I don't know who it is. I don't even get up for the door unless I am expecting someone.

No...

I want one of those camera door answering things I've seen on TV shows. They aren't security, just for the sole purpose of seeing who's at the door and talking to them.

The only unexpected people I ever get are the bible thumpers. It is always the Jehovahs Witnesses or the Mormons.

I'm thinking about removing the stairs leading to my front porch and extending the railing across that opening. Maybe add a small dumbwaiter for my Amazon deliveries.

I can still go out there to whittle and holler at passersby but no one could knock on the door.

Jesus you guys are paranoid...

I'm not paranoid but I don't want to deal with the people selling shit and/or trying to convert me to their stupid fucking religion so I avoid answering the door if I'm not expecting anyone.

I'll go look to see if it is one of my son's friends asking to play but if it is someone I don't know I just don't answer the door.

I do because I want to know who it is.

I don't understand the people who don't answer phone calls or their doors. Makes no sense to me.

if the number is not already in my phone, its not important enough to answer and they can leave a message

I bet you're one of those guys who if he gets a call on his cell and the person doesn't leave a message and you don't recognize the number, you call the person back.
