Do wireless keyboards have any latency?

I was looking at purchasing a wireless keyboard (logitech) to use with my new computer, but I am concerned with latency/battery issues. Has anyone ever had a problem with lag between the keyboard/receiver?

I am a heavy AutoCAD (command line driven program), so I am very concerned with any lag. If anyone has ever noticed any, I would appreciate a response!

...um no jbond04 [typing w/ a Logitech Cordless Freedom]. The only latency is when you first "wake" up the mouse if it hasn't been used for some time, other than that I'd say go for it, hope this helps 🙂

i've used an infrared wireless keyboard and there was some VERY noticeable lag when I tried to play some quake. It was useless for that. but for typing, it's fine.

I use 2 logitech cordless keyboards including the newest Cordless freedom optical (the black one) and there is no lag at all with it. However I do remember another logitech cordless keyboard that had horrible latency issues when the receiver was blocked. So make sure the reciever is 'clear" even though the keyboards are RF.
 
I tried my friends wireless keyboard. It was a logitech I think. I was really disappointed with it...seemed to be noticeably laggy.
 
I use a Logitech Cordless Freedom Optical kbd/mouse set. The mouse needs to "wake up" sometimes, but the lag from the keyboard is hardly noticable. I play games like Jedi Knight II, and it seems to play fine (except when the mouse goes crazy and I end up staring at the sky... don't know why that happens). But if you need extremely fine response from your keyboard, then you might just go wired. I have a game called, "Kick It Up," which is basically a PC port of an arcade game similar to "Dance Dance Revolution." The idea is that you time your keystrokes with the icons on the screen and the music. When I made the switch to wireless, I noticed that my scores significantly dropped because I was missing many of the beats. The lag from the keyboard skewed my timing just enough that I can't play that game (well) with this keyboard. Good luck to you.

I've tried changing frequencies. The thing is, it only happens once in a blue moon, so I'm not too worried about it. Thanks.
 
I have a Logitech Cordless iTouch keyboard, and i do not notice any lag.

The only time i have experienced lag or any problems with a cordless keyboard is with my dad's infra-red keyboard, it is useless for playing games and when you hold down a key, it takes about a second for it to recognise you are holding it down and actually repeat the key!

But the RF ones i've not had any problems 🙂

If it's an optical mouse, this happens because you move the mouse to fast and it loses it's "tracking". It's one of the major gripes some gamers have with optical mice, and it's also the reason why Logitech released the Dual Optical Mouse.

It happens to me all the time, since I set my sensitivity so low. I have to use a ball-mouse for FPS gaming.
 
I have the microsoft wireless desktop. No problems with the mouse at all and no latency problems with the keyboard. I do have a 'hang' problem with the keyboard during games though. Every couple of minutes it will lock one of the keys down so that I continue travelling in that direction (WASD) even after the key is released. If I tap on the key again it corrects itself. I haven't really played around with it much, anyone have any ideas while we are on the subject though?
 
I'm looking for a combo wireless keyboard/mouse combo (i.e. mouse onboard the keyboard). I went to my local Fry's and bought a BTC 5113RF for $40. It's a small keyboard powered by 3 batteries. It uses radio to communicate with the receiver. It is ALSO A TOTAL PIECE OF CRAP!!! I should have had second thoughts when all the other BTC keyboards had return stickers on them. Not only is there severe latency with this keyboard, but also severe data loss. When I type, even at a slow rate, it will miss ever other letter. I've tried changing channels, using fresh batteries, but to no avail. Anybody know of a good wireless keyboard/mouse? There's a lot of shady stuff out there, especially on ebay. None of the major manufacturers make one (Logitech, Microsoft). I don't mind some small latency (I'm not going to play Quake on this computer), but the better the performance, the happier I'll be.
 
I have a Logitech Cordless Freedom Keyboard, and the only time I really get any latency is when I'm typing 120 wpm (trust me, I can get it that high).

Games and regular normal typing (0-70 wpm) don't experience any lag.

They're cool, too 🙂
