Do Wifi media players work?

Although it would be great if this worked flawlessly, i'd still vote for a modded xbox + wireless bridge for your media center needs...XBMC is pretty much the best "media center" i've ever encountered.

I have one, but let me say they are not that good.

First off, it goes by what your mp3 tags say. Therefore, if your tags aren't up to date or accurate, you have some work ahead of you. Second, these things can't play some types of media files such as quicktime and so on.

I had a heck of a time with my SMC media player. I am tempted to go back to just puting a PC in place and connecting it up to my TV. More functionality.

I had a GoVideo network player that supposedly did that, but it worked quite poorly. I don't know about the D-link, but I wonder if it has similar problems.

In any case, I also opted to go the Xbox route after that and am very glad that I did. XBMC is an excellent piece of software (along with the other fun things you can do with a modded Xbox)

The consensus seems to be that technically they are ready to do music, but video support isn't there yet. PC Magazine did a story a few months ago and this was their conclusion.
