Do Wifi HotSpot 2.0 takes more power?

I am wondering with your phone's Wifi turned on, would it actually shorten the battery life since it is constantly connecting and disconnecting with Wifi AP when you are walking around.
 
Yes, having wifi turned on will reduce battery life as the wifi chipset has to be powered, even if only in a low power mode.
