This problem doesn't concern you so butt out. I seriously doubt anyone values your opinion about anything. Umm k?

They coulda chosen a more appropriate name for the channel but there's nothing wrong with showing WhateverTF you like on it.

Yes it is racist. I remember flipping through channels and landing on BET and caught one of their commercials. It was a movie audience made up of all black people except for one white guy. Everyone was laughing at the movie except the white guy who had a perplexed look on his face. One black person looked to the other and said with some disdain, "Some people just don't get it." , then fade in BET symbol.
If you had a white channel that ran the same commercial all *heck* would break loose. Spike Lee is a racist, Farakan is a racist, Al Sharpton is a racist and they are, I believe, revered on BET. I don't think in america we need tv stations named after the color of our skin. I would not have a problem with African Heritage Channel or whatever if it did not put down other races as I wouldn't have a problem with a Scottish Heritage Channel if they didn't look down on blacks for not wearing kilts.
Lifetime needs to show one of their 3 hour movies... with a man being the rape victim for once.Originally posted by: conjur
BET doesn't bother me. Are you upset with Spike TV (TV for Men) or Lifetime TV (TV for Women)?
Actually, Lifetime ticks me off. It's the equivalent of one of those ridiculous women's magazines that fill their minds with impossible ideals...much like soap operas.

I am not African American, however I feel that BET portrays the wrong image of the black man. I have many black friends, and they are offended by all the "Bling Bling" and the way they have blacks perform on stage and often make a fool out of themselves or other black persons. I feel that it is good to have pride in your culture, and to many this is an outlet from their everyday lives, however, naming yourself the "Black Entertainment Televsion" network as opposed to say the "Hip-Hop Network" brings a responsibilty to represent ALL black men and women in all facets of life.

I don't reallly have a problem with it, but I just know that if the White Entertainment Channel were to be created, that thing wouldn't last 5 minutes before it got shot down for being racially motivated

Hmmm let me get this straight your *jealous* friends have a hard time with another black man on stage, in the spot light, cashing checks in the multiple grand range, and getting laid anytime they want by almost anyone they want?
How would the Hip-Hop Network cover all the bases the programming does?
There are the players and the wannabes...just because someone is black doesn't make them a player and I do see a lot of black men and women thinking they are the next Jay-Z or Ashanti (etc) and doing a laughable job at it.
Same with whites, chinese, japanese, indians, muslims, catholics, jewish, ...
Why don't you and your black friends develop their own network if they and you are so offended?

I don't have a problem with BET... I don't watch it because I don't like that kind of music (give me Skynyrd any day). I don't think it would bother blacks if we had a white equivalent - for one, they could make fun of us for starting a network called "WET." I think a lot of people go way overboard with this reverse-racism b.s. Yeah, we white folks are SO oppressed. The fact is that there is no need for WET, most of the rest of the channels appeal to whites.
