You're a freaking idiot. The military convinced the country that they needed a pretty much unlimited budget because the Russians had a virtually unlimited budget. They were building nonstop and we had to do the same. Well Russia went tits-up, so why are we still building? Who the *** are we arming against?

Yeah, military programs are expensive and product development takes time. Guess what? THAT APPLIES TO EVERYONE ELSE TOO!! Russia, China and the UK can't wave a magic wand and develop anything or build anything in sufficient quantity overnight. For them to reach our level would take a decade of non-stop spending and arming up. They're not doing it.

What planet do you live on? you make it sound like a arms race and we are pumping out tanks and ships and Rosie the riveter is the main work force. Truth is, the US military force numbers been declining for years. hell Pakistan has more active military then the US.

The Air Force has a dire personnel shortage.

Military personnel have gotten shit for COL raises under obama. hell last year it was a 1% raise, 2017 it will be 1.7
http://www.militarytimes.com/articles/obama-military-pay-16-percent-raise

The US Navy is at its lowest fleet numbers since before WWII and only added 2 new ships last year.
http://index.heritage.org/military/2016/assessments/us-military-power/us-navy/

in 2014 the US Army got 5.1 billion less the previous year and cuts were made.
http://index.heritage.org/military/2016/assessments/us-military-power/us-army/

The Marines have felt the drawdown as well. "The drawdown is expected to continue in FY 2017, when the Corps will reach an “enduring” end strength of 182,000 Active personnel, funded entirely from the base budget"
http://index.heritage.org/military/2016/assessments/us-military-power/us-marine-corps/

WHO ARE WE SUPPOSED TO BE FIGHTING THAT REQUIRES THIS LEVEL OF SPENDING? Why are we spending more than the next 15 countries combined?

this may help your ignorance.
  • Defense of the homeland;
  • Successful conclusion of a major war having the potential to destabilize a region of critical interest to the U.S.; and
  • Preservation of freedom of movement within the global commons: the sea, air, and outer space domains through which the world conducts business.
The geographical focus of the threats in these areas is further divided into three broad regions: Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. our military operates on a global scale. something those 15 countries you listed do not.

Yep. And add to that the requirement to have the ability to fight 2 major wars at once.

You are monumentally stupid.

Fine, defense of homeland. How many carrier fleets in the Med and Indian Ocean does that require? How many tanks in Europe defend the homeland? How many missile batteries the Middle East? How do China, Russia, the UK, France, Japan and India defend all those homelands while combined spending half of what we spend? Take your time

Successful conclusion of WHAT FREAKING MAJOR WAR? We have not successfully concluded a war since 1945. Since then we have the worlds larges military bogged down in quagmires that we don't even win.

Preservation of freedom of movement? How do China, Russia, the UK, France, Germany and EVERYONE else on Earth move freely? WTF blockading anything? Who has the power to blockade anything? If we recall our fleets is freaking Morocco going to bottle up the Med? Can China hold the Pacific? Iceland going to close down the north Atlantic? What world are you living in?

Why is the US Military operating on a global scale. China isn't. Russia isn't. The UK, France, Germany, Japan, India etc all practice free trade globally. Their ships and planes move freely, their citizens cross borders, their banks hook up to every other bank, they all manage to do it with tiny military forces compared to ours.

So what the fuck is our military buying us exactly? How are other countries protecting their homeland, traveling the seas and skies freely and operating global economies without the worlds largest military? Are American forces that incompetent that we need to outspend the next 15 countries combined to get the same level of defense and freedom? Are our soldiers and sailors so inept that we need so many more of them? Is 1 Brit the equal of 20 Americans? Do our weapons perform so badly that we need to put 100 planes into the sky to get the same level of defense that other countries get out of 1?

I'm going to keep asking this until one of you fucktards can answer it: WHO ARE WE EXPECTING TO FIGHT? If China and Russia and Germany and the UK and France unite against us we still outspend all of them combined 2 to 1. What force or coalition of forces can threaten our security and what force or coalition of forces could threaten our security if we cut spending 33%? We'd still outspend China, Russia, UK, France, Germany, India and Japan combined by a large margin.

Remember Greece being in a financial crisis? That must mean they have no money to spend on their military right?

And as for all those other countries movely freely? That may well be in large part due to the US military being dominant over the rest of the world, and the use of that military as a hard deterrent to other countries closing down trading and transportation routes. Without the US military patrolling the seas, you may well find that some other large countries might not care as much about free trade, and they might prefer controlling the seas around them to open and free trade, even if it costs them some potential revenue.

And Russia does operate on a global scare, albeit with limited capabilities. And China is rapidly expanding their global operations. You dont know about the Chinese military base in Djibouti do you?

I could probably address every question in this post.
I'd have to charge you for it though.
My time isn't cheap.
I got kids shows to catch up on.

oh shit. had no idea the USA was being invaded. Damn mainstream media for not telling the truth! It's all a big propaganda machine!

I actually hate that term "Homeland."

We have the benefit of 2 big oceans, a friendly country to north and a friendly neighbor to the south.
However, we do have some beach front vacation property we need to keep an eye on.
