Good point... I won't even look very hard, just a local place that I can get prices on real quickly (higher maybe, but illustrative still):

20GB HD IBM 5400RPM (UDMA/ATA 100)-5yrs Warranty $114.00
30GB HD Maxtor 5400RPM (UDMA/ATA 66)-3yrs Warranty $127.00
40GB HD IBM 5400RPM (UDMA/ATA 100)-5yrs Warranty $171.00

Granted the 30GB is ATA66, however for $13 you can get 10GB more storage... And then for only $44 more than THAT you can get a 40GB one... When you're all ready spending $120, $30 or $40 isn't all that much considering you DOUBLE your space...

As far as the lacking in other places... Either that, or some of us just have money? Hmmm...

i have a 20 gb hard drive and i want another because i am almost filled to the top and in the next lan party i will probably find more stuff and not have enough room left. that happened to me once and regret not being able to get some movies from everyone who is gone to college now.

LOL, my friend has a burner and he burns so much that he just has this pile of UNLABELED cds. i was searching through these cds one day looking for a game and what did i find? a WHOLE cd devoted to porn! that thing was full! imagine, a whole cd (700mb) full of porn pictures that are <50 k a piece. now that's a lot of porn. and did it stop there, oh no, i found another cd with porn movies in it. jeez, that guy is an animal!

anyways, i dont think that having your hard drive affects your performane much at all unless it is just to the point where you only have like a few megs left and any hard drive would run slow then.
