Do you remember the civil war, at all?

Edit: Of course I realize that Lincoln was a republican and that the country was a very different place than it was today. I have total respect for the roots of the republican party, I just don't respect how modern Replubicans should just be called the Christian party.

If Stonewall Jackson wasn't killed, there would have been a far different outcome. Just keep in mind that the Union was losing, with far superior numbers, for a good portion of that war.

Keep in mind that the Union was only committing like 25% of its available forces during the portion where the south was "winning" and that Union Generals were inexperienced and were not on the offensive. The Generals were hesitant to seek out and confront Confederate armies. Once Grant was put in charge things changed quickly. Grant committed a larger percent of the Union's forces and actively perused Confederate armies until they were destroyed or surrendered.

...

Getting back to the original topic. I think it's a very sad and pathetic thing that people in this country have succumbed to describing their entire philosophy on life by a color. I generally think anyone willing to label themselves as "red" or "blue" probably isn't intelligent enough to be worth talking to.

Hmm, if this happens I am moving out of Illinois. I wont move into any of the states and instead go up to Canada until the stupid politicians on both sides realize how stupid they are.

I hate division based politics as well, but I see this growing sentiment from "Red" states, clinging onto divisive issues such as homosexuality in a way to further separate themselves, continuing to blur church and state. It personally angers me, turning America from this wonderfully progressive bastion of Freedom into something else...

I don't think that is a fair sentiment about "Red" states. I think there is a few loud voices, e.g. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, that makes great sound bites but fundamentally I don't think it is all that bad.

Think about it, the farming ag Red state of Iowa now has gay marriage, but a 'progressive' Blue State like California had their citizens ban gay marriage. Ohio has a constitutional amendment describing marriage as one man and one woman - granted Ohio is often a swing "purple" state, but it typically has been a northern state.

The McCain camp has been coming out to tell their fellow Republicans to "get over" the entire anti-gay stance. I do have my doubts on how well that message will permeate through, but at least something has been said.

Now with that being said the invasion of religion into politics bothers the hell out of me but I don't think it is necessarily as decisive as many partisan hacks like to portray it.

Well, there is no shortage of stupid people here that's for sure. Hopefully the Supreme Court will overturn that proposition and the next time the religious fundies put another prop to ban gay marriage it will be defeated. It was a lot closer this time than it was back in 2000 when they put forth a similar proposition banning gay marriage. The only reason it passed (barely) was because the church threw millions and millions of dollars into supporting it and preaching about it to their mindless drones.

the southwest is not the deep south. are you perchance retarded? the only major farming states in the south are florida and texas, and only one of those is republican (and increasingly turning blue :D)

on top of it, the south is the poorest and most undeveloped part of the country. Good riddance.

Hey, shut up, where am I supposed to get my bourbon from then?

Or, you know, healthcare and music.

Well... the north does need batshit crazy stupid people to send to war right?

Oh wait the blue states aren't the gun toting rednecks, the amount of war/violence would probably decrease.

wow, for once a thread with sensible arguments and real discussions with a hint of comedy :). Is this AT? :p. Anyways, I really have nothing to add to this discussion other than that a lot of people in this thread has provided decent points. I'm going to have to applaud Babble for his comments. It's quite easy to bash on Bush and the republican party, but I'm going to have to thank him to say that in the end, everyone means well; regardless of how others may disagree with those opinions to the point of villainizing them.

I don't think most of the music I listen to comes from the South anyway.

I'm all for it. I'm ready for the South to secede again.

Then we'll really see what works. Massive government regulation and increased taxation or freedom and liberty. I'm going with freedom and liberty.

I'm confused - Europe is probably your definition of 'massive government regulation' - aren't they doing better than Republican run states here in the U.S.? What's the economy of Alabama like these days?

I don't agree with alot of Republicans either. They're way over on the massive government regulation side as well. But they'd stay in DC along with the "blue staters".

March 2009 unemployement rates - Alabama (9%) ... Texas (6.7%) ... Michigan (12.6%) ... California (11.2%)

Where would you rather look for work, Michigan or Texas?

And Europe is crumbling before our eyes. Britain is leading the way into a debt so deep they can't get out of it. Just like the current batch of Republicans and Democrats (which aren't very different overall).

edit: spelling

Nashville is the 2nd largest producer of music in the country. I have no idea what you listen to, but I'll list some non-country artists who recorded there:

Joan Osborne
Jewel
Natalie Imbruglia
Janis Ian
John Hiatt
3 Doors Down
Avril Lavigne
No Doubt
Christina Aguilera
Matchbox Twenty
Megadeth
Sheryl Crow
Uncle Kracker
Vanessa Williams
David Wilcox
Roger McGuinn
Art Garfunkel
Hot Action Cop
Gin Blossoms

Those are the ones off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more.

Yeah, I don't really listen to any of those :p
Besides, there are good studios all over the place, and producers can travel to any of them.

Dislike every single one of those. Hate many of them. Don't you know trendy good music only comes out of NYC, the Northwest, parts of California and the UK? :)

Yeah, let's split. I don't really appreciate bailing out the dickheads in CA with their batshit insane housing and liar loans, and the motherfuckers in NY exponentially betting on it who have trainwrecked our economy.

See...other people can troll too.

Why do you red state folks like puns so much? It's a little embarrassing, dude.

Coming from someone who's profile sez lives in Loozeeana...a state that rakes in $1.45 for every tax dollar they pay, and about double what Kahleeforneeya receives...you have defined the ironing...

In case all that's too deep for you, the Blue states are the ones supporting your state...not the other way around.
